The reasoning he allegedly gave so far seems really stupid, but who knows what he's actually saying to them or why he really did it. That's the story we're getting now from the FBI spokespeople, which obviously needs to be taken with a continent-sized grain of salt, but there's also the chance he just thinks he'll be in less trouble if he says he did it to impress his friends or as a shitpost vs. a thought out, specific, targeted release of very specific information that the US govt very much did not want to be made public.

I don't want to attribute false motives to him or anything, but the scope of what he released seems to me to point more towards he knew what he was doing and wanted to get that stuff out there for people see, but who knows, maybe he's just a really dumb human being.

If he's just a dumbass who did something stupid I don't feel bad for him because I'm tired and pretty sick of stupid people doing stupid things, but if he's more of an idealistic type who did it for a reason I do feel bad that he's prob going to get waterboarded like crazy and never see the light of day again.

I don't mind countries spying on each other, and leaks like this tend to get those people killed which isn't good

Yeah, I have a patch of dirt in my front yard that's like 15 square feet and I haven't been able to just get some grass to grow there for 3+ years now, so I'm pretty sure I'd mess up 100 "self sustaining" acres.
