Is there a TLDR version of this Say Anything drama? I checked out around 2012 not to any fault of Max/the band, just my tastes moved on. Why is there such ire towards him now?

 

Brian from Weatherbox being involved with this makes me way more excited than anything else. God I miss that band.

 

The most bare-bones TLDR is that he's a scummy dude who fucked over his family and his fans.

The longer version is that he was always not in the right headspace and things got worse with addictions and other bad habits and he's been struggling for a long time, but took advantage of his fans with Patreon and song shop orders that were never fulfilled and pimped out his kids as flower girls as a Patreon reward. He then started "getting back in character" for Oliver, Appropriate by snorting meds/drugs. He planned shows, bailed on them, started supposedly selling his house, selling part of Say Anything's music library because he went broke.

There has been a lot so I might have missed stuff or jumbled stuff together, but that's the general gist.

I don’t know what the intended effect of him writing that was, but I’m sure I didn’t get it. Is there even a song? Why did this come out now lol

 

I've never read a press release that's made me less excited for whatever is about to happen.

 

Poor Fred. He deserves better.

 

Max will spontaneously combust if he doesn’t overshare.

 

The sad thing, for me, is that in a bubble this whole semi meta conceptual boat blah blah actually is kinda cool and interesting.

BUT, with the large caveat, that it's only cool if Max actually made up for all the shit he's done and was actually remorseful etc etc.

 

Some things never change.

 

Didn’t he also like put all of his and his wife’s shit out there in one rambling self recorded podcast?

 

Fred works with literally anybody now, he also was opening for Saves The Day so idk

 

Also that press release is one of the most coherent things Max has written in months.........

 

I'm gonna be honest, I think I remember that but he's done so much shit it's all just a blur...

Damn. Is there anyone more pretentious than Max? As much as I always loved the band, all their press releases were a bunch of nonsense as Max rambles on and on and on lol. Couldn't help but laugh when reading "not since the first album" since every album since Anarchy has to bring up IARB in some way during the press release lol

 

I don't think I've seen someone so hung up on their past like Max.

 

A lot of great comments in here. Seems silly to like so many at once. Just know you're all doing a great job.

 

The Color Fred has been very active lately. I’m surprised to see him doing this as well.

 

This would have been a good time to release the song that he directly references in this press release. Weird to just put this out there without it.
