I just never see this level of vitriolic gatekeeping applied to men. It’s the same shit that Hayley always dealt with. “Paramore isn’t a real band,” etc.

Like, people used to shit on the Metro Station’s of the world. But the personal vitriol wasn’t there. That seems reserved for women.

I’m happy to articulate how I feel. I didn’t like Hey Monday’s songs when they were around, and from a casual observer’s point of view (admittedly I haven’t followed her career closely), something about her jump to The Voice, to country, and now back to pop punk feels disingenuous to me. The same way I feel MGK’s jump from rap to pop punk felt disingenuous to me.

I take accusations of misogyny seriously because that just isn’t me. I know this is just a forum but I’m going to speak up when anybody is condescending, accusatory, or patronizing. It’s insufferable and gross.

Also, all of this is hilarious to me considering I’m a massive Paramore and Hayley Williams fan and have been for almost two decades.

I thought this site was better than the misogynistic garbage like this that is littering the thread.

    Disappointing.

My wife and I both loved Hey Monday but found it very lame when she went full country pop and The Voice at the same time... It just felt like... "Al....right?.... See you later I guess?" In terms of our music hemisphere..I think thats why we're so hesitant to just blindly be like "Oh okay cool yeah welcome back!"

The Artist vs Poet guy did the same thing with The Voice and then vanished.

I didn't like her on the voice and I'm petty so that's why I'm not a huge fan but like this doesn't impact me in anyway so I hope the fans like it :shrug2:

I'm not being misogynistic at all. I support woman in music from Carly Rae pop to Hayley in Paramore to Laura in Against Me, etc. I buy their music, I buy their merch, I buy their concert tickets, I bought Laura's book, and I will always support women in this scene. I apologize if people don't agree with me but jumping from one scene to another to chase popularity is disingenuous to me. I feel the same way about male bands/artist that change their sound to stay prevalent. I should have written "That's obnoxious" in lieu of my original post and for that I apologize.

I took a few classes in college with the HM bass player. What a little douche bag he was.

Got Hold On Tight in my car CD player right now. Is it the best album ever? No. Am I excited for her to dip her toes back into pop punk? Hell yeah, her voice is great for the genre. Vocals definitely stood out on their records even as the quality of the music dipped on Beneath It All
