April 4, 2023 (Nashville, TN) - Today, GRAMMY-nominated, Platinum-certified singer-songwriter, Cassadee Pope, announces her brand new single, “People That I Love Leave,” out April 14th. Co-written by Cassadee, Ali Tamposi (Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Kelly Clarkson), Roman Campolo (Elton John, BTS), Nick Long (Machine Gun Kelly, Avril Lavigne) and Andrew Luce (Iann Dior, Role Model) and produced by Cassadee, Dan Swank, Mason Sacks, Hosu Yoon and Luce, the high-energy track is paired with emotionally charged lyrics about being afraid of fully letting love in after having been through so much heartbreak.

Pre-save “People That I Love Leave” now HERE.

Always paving her own path in the industry since the beginning of her career, Cassadeebegins a new chapter in her musical journey with “People That I Love Leave.” Having started her career as the frontwoman of beloved, pop-punk band, Hey Monday, “People That I Love Leave” marks a return to form for Cassadee. “This next project has an authenticity that I’ve never been able to tap into before now,” she shares. “Pop and rock music is such a staple in my creativity so to fully return back to that genre feels special and like coming back home.”

Speaking on the new direction of her sound, Cassadee shares, “I wanted to lead with a high energy, uptempo song. I love jumping around on stage and always have since Hey Monday. This song gives people a pretty clear picture of where I’m headed sonically and energetically.”

Just out of curiousity - after reading the press release, would anybody here consider Hey Monday a "beloved pop punk band"?

I thought they were fun back in the day, but I couldn't tell you what songs they had anymore at this point (but to be fair, I'm also old now). I do remember being irritated she went from Hey Monday to country singer girl though.

    Naked in Manhattan.

That is quite a bit of writers for a "solo" pop-punk track.

I thought Hey Monday had a few very catchy songs and I enjoyed seeing them live when they opened for someone else I saw. I still rotate them every once in a while.

I rolled my eyes when I heard about her moving to country and stating something to the effect that she would do anything to get famous.

the timing of this feels like her "going back to her roots" just because there's been a resurgence of pop punk popularity. so it sounds very on brand for someone that just wants to be famous.

This feels very forced considering the recent resurgence of pop punk in general. I'll give it a listen; Hey Monday had some cool tracks back in the day, but I have a feeling, this new track will be very generic sounding.

With all those writers, why not just get back with Hey Monday and write a new song? If she really wanted to go back to her roots, she'd get that band back together to do this project instead of doing a "solo" pop-punk tune.

Wow these replies are so salty. I'll hold my judgement until I actually listen to the song

She’s been moving back in this direction for years, making the announcement is a grab at headlines for sure but this is by no means the grift y’all are pretending it is

I felt they were the b-side to Paramore back in the mid to late 00s FBR roster.

Hurricane Streets and How You Love Me Now were pretty catchy.

We've got both ends of the spectrum in this thread now with this chronically online Tiktok user reply LOL

Looking forward to this song. Just here for the music. ✌

I never realized there was so much animosity towards Cassadee Pope. Thought there’d be a lot more support for her here!

My old band opened up for Hey Monday back in the day. She was delightful to hang with.

Unfortunately it was pretty much this exact way on AP.net back when she won The Voice

Is there an actual good reason why people here have this attitude towards her and think she's "fake" or whatever?

I don't find it hard to believe a young woman could grow up genuinely liking both pop punk and country, then break into one industry, and then decide to pursue the other industry when it seemed like a better fit for what she wanted (on multiple level, including finances). And, if she genuinely likes the pop punk sound but also likes having a successful career in music with a wide reach... then, yeah, a pop punk resurgence would be an attractive opportunity, lol.

(Also don't understand why she'd have to revive the band name she and her old bandmates used all those years ago to revisit the genre, or why it matters if she wants to pay professional songwriters to work with her now that that's her scene. It's not as romantic and possibly not as purely "art"-as-self-expression, but whatever. It's really not that different from writing with a band, lol.)

Truly don't have any strong feelings about her either way, and yeah I find the intersection of creativity and commerce often quite ugly. But, unless there's good reason to hate her that I don't know about... honestly, good for her? Do your thing, love that for you, wish you the best, etc.

I would say the exact same thing if she was a guy. Fuck off.

  23. The spectrum being...? I've never listened to any of her music, but the vibe in this thread was immediately off and took me back to the worst of the ap.net days wrt the treatment of female musicians in the scene. Forgive me for expecting better of dudes in their 30s (assuming with the lame TikTok dig).

You wouldn't and my point went over your head.

You know, I'm almost sad you guys don't venture outside the Article Discussion because I'd enjoy seeing you get dunked all over the forums with rancid takes like these.

Hm. Yeah, I’m sure the disdain is at least a lil more nuanced than “I hate women!!!”

But, like… it’d be nice to have someone articulate a reason for this bitterness (as opposed to, say, ambivalence). Only thing I see is a vague “she’s fake,” which I think needs a citation, lol.
