Say what you want about AEW, AEW has never put on a show as bad as RAW this week and has never wasted a huge angle like WWE just did. RAW was a gigantic waste of 3 hours and they drew huge ratings which probably makes it even worse than it was such a bad show.

again whenever i post in this thread i feel like i’ve woken up in bizarro world. dynamite’s been kind of on a roll (barring a few episodes) since full gear and yes they’ve never made an episode as bad as raw

i also think they pivoted pretty hard circa last year’s grand slam and the booking’s been far more focused

roh booking has been an embarrassment of riches on top of that

Dynamite has seemed so good lately that I’m a little upset I canceled my tv subscription

The AEW Nigel posts are all filled with comments of “I hope he’s replacing Excalibur” and I can’t stress enough how much I fucking hate wrestling fans.

I would pretty vehemently disagree with the notion that AEW has been focused or on an upward trajectory with storytelling, though I think the last two shows have shown an indication of some improvement in that regard. Nowhere near enough to be a trend quite yet.

There's still a ton of the "bring in wrestler X for a random main event that means nothing." There's too many titles, too much crossover with ROH, an overload of cute "insider" stuff on promos that just feels there to make you gasp. They, like WWE, are also guilty of leaning too heavily into swerves for the sake of swerves. It's been over three years now and they still haven't got the slightest inclining of how to book and promote a women's division.

I'm glad there are people still enjoying it more than I am. AEW was was far and away my favorite wrestling product during the bulk of 2021 into early 2022, but I thought they took a dramatic down turn after that and haven't recovered in the slightest. Ratings tend to support that I'm not alone in that feeling.

And then, of course, Rampage and Battle of the Belts are just completely useless properties and they're talking about adding more.

I love aew but i will say this: hiring a booker that is not tony would benefit the company. Let tony focus on the business side and give creative to someone else.

I think that's unequivocally the answer here. I like Tony, I love that he's offered a legitimate alternative that is doing incredibly well in so many ways. I do think he absolutely needs to delegate a lot of the week-to-week creative stuff to someone who has the time to get into the minutia of it all.

Part of what I dislike so much about the week-to-week product is that it feels like it's being booked by a guy who is spread too thin and also has multi-million dollar commitments to major sports franchises. Because, quite literally, it is.

anyway i’m on my way to the long island show and i’m going to have a great time. feels good to not be a wwe mark or someone who hates tony khan because of his tweets or excitable energy or whatever

  15. Critiquing AEW = being a WWE mark

There's so much great wrestling all over the world that you could choose to not watch AEW/WWE and not be missing out

I've wanted Rampage to be its own show with a different roster for awhile, but it sounds like that's what ROH is going to be.

AEW should just buy Impact and then have 3 shows:

    1. AEW: Dynamite (main show)

    2. AEW: Ring of Honor (focus on technical stuff and exhibition matches)

    3. AEW: Impact (chikara-esque, showcase indie talent)

No matter how bad WWE and AEW are, they’ll never be as bad as their fan bases.

Honestly I'm kinda surprised they haven't bought Chikara already. But at the same time I can only imagine Quack would just hold onto it to be a dick.

Edit: Actually I think IWTV has the Chikara library but I could be wrong.
