People always say “let people like what they like” when someone judges someone else for a fandom…except for “Disney adults”. Why? It’s something they grew up with and still follow, just like other things like Star Wars and others.

Well, it is for children and they are adults.

Pretty sure “Disney adult” implies a specific type of diehard fan, separate from your average adult who finds various Disney films quite good and/or fun.

And, I think most people who make fun of Disney adults would also make fun of adults with a similarly unhealthy relationship to, say, Star Wars or whatever.

Yes exactly. It’s the excessiveness of it. Like I’d love to take a 10 day vacation to DisneyWorld but I’m not gonna go stand in line for hours to buy a special popcorn bucket

major difference between someone who wants to watch toy story every now and then as an adult vs someone who breaks down into tears when they see the magic kingdom.

I live in Central Florida. People I know spent five hours in line for that bucket. It is creepy.

I think of Disney adult as someone who make Disney their entire personality and that just seems unhealthy

The Disney adult thing is part of a pathology of stunted adulthood. In Disney movies the morality is black and white and the hero always wins. The theme parks are clean and manicured so you don't have to look at society's ills like poverty or drug addiction or violence. They don't have underpaid and overworked employees; they have cast members! You aren't just some customer; you're a guest! I would recommend everyone go once if you can because of how impressive some of it is but also maybe go to Rome or New York City if you have that kind of money.

I was just about to say the same. Lived there for nearly a decade and the amount of people who go every month, are fully engrossed in the world of Disney and have to let others know is insane.

My girlfriend’s former coworker is a Disney adult… 38 years old (but looks a lot older), lives with her parents, and only listens to Disney music in her free time and at work

  20. I've been to Disney as an adult without a kid and it is fun. Going this year with a kid and it will be less fun lol.

Well that's totally fine and normal. It's just people who fully fuse their brains with Disney

  22. No I get it I'm saying it's actually better to go without a kid if you want to enjoy it.

Star Wars fandom and Star Trek fandom are very very different.

Not saying there aren't pockets of toxic Trekkies, but compared to the Star Wars fan community it is like night and day.
