Yeah that’s not cool. Especially when he’s made the band his committed career for 20 years. Last two albums sucked. Probably should’ve let him help write.

I remember seeing The Color Fred not too long after Fred had exited TBS. After the show, he was extremely kind enough to talk to everyone who wanted to meet him. My buddy asked him why he left TBS, which was a pretty rude thing to throw out there, but he was super kind and humble about it. He just chuckled a little and said something along the lines of “man, as you might be able to imagine, those aren’t exactly the easiest guys to live with.” I guess what I’m trying to say is: you know, maybe long term, James is better off? Love me some UO, but damn it seems like they can’t go very long without some sort of drama bubbling over. Gonna guess James (and Grant) don’t get any royalties if they aren’t writing or performing on any albums anyways. So, while missing out on touring is almost certainly a big financial hit for him and his family, maybe this will allow him to focus on his long term future away from the band. Or maybe he’ll be on a future UO reunion project. Who knows?

Edit: in the interviews I’ve watched (Spencer and Aaron, of course) where it has come up, I also got the feeling that it was a deliberate choice that James and Grant weren’t included in the writing/recording process. I thought that was pretty weird. I’m curious if James might comment on his take with all of that at some point.

Was James ever a big part of the writing process though? Never really followed them after TOCS.

My understanding, and what I thought was the prevailing notion, was that James and grant have never been very active writers, so when the band got back together, they all sorta mutually agreed that grant and James would play and tour but wouldn’t really be involved in writing. Feel like that’s never been too based in concrete knowledge, but seemed to make sense. When James announced he was gone I figured they’d all come to a point where his membership wasn’t really sustainable. I guess his statement and his wife’s are somewhat counter to that, but there’s no detail whatsoever so idk how anyone feels confident assuming anything lol

Man, read his wife’s post and it made me really happy for them and bummed out at the same time.

This is no longer Underoath. This is Underoat, at best.

in the liner notes for Voyeurist it said chris, aaron, tim, & specner recorded everything

but it listed the 4 plus grant & tim under the member section, i thought that was weird that only the 4 of them recorded, im assuming to cut down on studio time/costs BUT if i had written certain parts ID want them recorded on MY bands album, that would trigger my anxiety but everybody is different. i had posted about it being weird when i found out only 4 of them recorded the new album and someone replied to me saying its been like that for a long time so what do i know.

Didn't James and Grant not want to be part of the Erase Me sessions because they didn't agree with the direction the band was going?

  10. Who knows, they never said anything of the sort. From my understanding, it was common for the other members (aka the main writers) to end up fighting during past writing sessions. Post reunion and even more so when working on Voyeurist, they came to a new agreement that’d help them streamline the process. I figure they thought with two less members in the writing room and studio, less arguing would ensue.

Paraphrasing, as that’s what I vaguely recall from the Voyeurist track by track breakdowns.

  11. between this and propping up Ronnie Radke on tour... don't sound like good dudes honestly

I heard this around the time Erase Me was released. Not sure where it started or if it’s true.

    Credits on the physical release?

I wanna say it was discussed in a mini documentary for the sessions of the album.

I don’t recall who said what, but I vaguely remember it being discussed in a mini-doc regarding the sessions of Erase Me.

I think it was an open secret that James and Grant haven't been involved in the writing process for a little while, so there probably wasn't any point in them recording stuff they didn't write. Must be a weird arrangement to still have them as official members of the band.

I remember Spencer making a passing comment on a stream a couple of weeks ago that there were only four writers in the band (without naming names), so this checks out.

Most bands usually only have a couple writers in the band but still list all the members in the liner notes, right? Underoath is weird

Are we sure they still don’t believe in dinosaurs? I dunno why, but the idea of some of the guys no longer being Christian and yet still not believing in dinosaurs would be hilarious lol. Obviously most Christians believe in dinosaurs. Just holding onto that conspiracy theory specifically would be awesome.

I thought that was just a joke Fat Mike made up. Did any members actually say they don't believe in dinosaurs?
