At least Neighborhoods is better than FOAM, I'll give it that

 

I like Neighborhoods

It came out on my 15th birthday so I’m sure that’s a huge reason why lol, I just have good memories with it

 

It is better than FOAM...but not by much!

 

Neighborhoods is better than both Cali and NINE. Shit take I know, but the whole Mark/Tom/Travis being back together again, despite obvious tension within the band at the time means more to me than Skiba saving the day.

Cali and NINE have their moments, and some of those moments are great, but 2009-2013 for that era of Blink was awesome to me, also being 18-23 and all my friends loving Blink, etc. probably played a factor.

 

9 is pretty good. California is a steaming pile of garbage.

 

It came out on my 18th birthday and I feel the opposite lol. Sick birthday present though, I’m sure we can both agree on that.

 

Neighborhoods couldn’t have been more of a disappointment to me upon first listen. I didn’t listen to any of the pre release singles so the whole thing would be fresh. And yeah, my brother and I sat in the car looking over the city and listened to the whole thing, and we were both really underwhelmed with it. And I’ve never recovered. It’s only gotten more unlistenable, aside from like 4 or 5 songs.

Every Blink album prior to that one flowed with my growth in musical taste, but in 2011 I was 25, and it was the first time I felt like their music and I weren’t synced up and that was an extra burn.

“Bored to Death” was the first time since Untitled where I was genuinely floored by new Blink-182 music.

 

Curious to hear why people like neighborhoods more than California/nine other than they prefer Tom to skiba

 

I like both eras but Tom’s voice is pretty distinct, no? A huge reason why people love this band was no longer present.

 

It's because most of the songs are bad.

 

Toms voice is tough for me. Love how it sounds on the albums pre-neighborhoods but I do not like it on neighborhoods and even on edging it was rough for me.

California is great
California deluxe is great
Nine is awesome.

I mean, I know Tom is a bad singer and all, but saying Matt Skiba is a huge reason why people love this band feels a little over the top.

 

Agreed!

 

I just happen to like most of Skiba’s output the past decade over what Tom has come out with. I thought Neighborhoods felt forced and disjointed. Will reserve judgement though.

 

Bored to Death > Edging

 

I know this is a 2016 take, but it bums me out they wasted a solid riff on Brohemian Rhapsody. I’m still bitter. Fuck it.
