Revisiting TBEITBN and it’s still a jam. “Hurricane” is a hell of an opener and I maintain that “The Window” and “The Long Defeat” are 2 of their best songs.

Agreed on Hurricane being one hell of an opener. Probably a top 10 Thrice song to me.

I think Blood on the Sand is one of the weakest Thrice songs lyrically. Same with Black Honey. Great messages but feel like Dustin is so much better when he's not as on the nose. But The Window and Long Defeat definitely make up for them.

“Hurricane” sets the stage for a force of an album. Dustin’s vocal performance on that song alone is :-O:explode::hearteyes:

I’m a fan of “Blood On the Sand”. It’s still the most punk they’ve been in a long time and while not the most eloquent lyrics, the way Dustin ties together the violence and racism/xenophobia of both US domestic and foreign policy is more complex than you’ll get from just about any band in the scene.

“Black Honey” is still my least favorite, not bad just mid.

Re-reading Blood on the Sand's lyrics and you're right, it's much more intricate than I'm giving it credit for. I'm just not a fan of the "I'm so sick of it" hook in the context of the music. But it feels a bit stronger if I'm just reading the lyrics.

Hurricane, The Window, The Long Defeat, Black Honey, Death From Above, and Whistleblower all slap big time.

I will say, though, that TBEITBN hasn’t held up for me as strong as other albums of theirs have over time. I still love it, but I think it’s closer to the middle of their discography for me at this point. I find myself revisiting Beggars, Vheissu, Artist, Fire/Water, and Horizons/East more nowadays.

In fact, speaking of Horizons/East, that album has gotten a lot of run for me recently and I think it might be their best album since Beggars. I absolutely love the tones on that record and the mix of it. The Color of the Sky and Scavengers is a great opening one-two punch and I think the run from Northern Lights to Dandelion Wine is filled with all great songs, aside from The Dreamer. Scavengers and Robot Soft Exorcism have been two of my favorite songs from this band since they were released and Still Life is on its way up there for me as well.

    Fight the long defeat.

Hard agree. I'd say the only weak points on Horizons/East are the lackluster lyrics on Buried in the Sun, and a good but not great closer in Unitive/East (though it's pleasant enough, just hard to compete with Beggars, Disarmed, Salt and Shadow, or Beyond the Pines - and that's just naming the recent gems).

I like both Buried in the Sun and Unitive/East, but I agree. They’re the easy weak links on the album. Would have loved it if Dead Wake were to have made it onto the album instead of Buried in the Sun. Open Your Eyes and Dream would have been good inclusion too.

I think the H/E era was largely filled with absolute bangers

Think The Arsonist is my favorite from Fire. Also just realized how similar the riff is to Deftones' My Own Summer.

The Arsonist is so good. I go back and forth between that and Firebreather for my favorite on the EP. Gotta give a shout out to Burn the Fleet. I love that one too.

I think I give unitive/East a pass as far as it being a less exciting closing track because I remember reading the intention was that it was supposed to work in unison with the closing track from West but then that project got pushed. So hopefully that’s still true otherwise it might be lackluster.

Unitive/east is pretty meh to me. I can’t understand what Dustin is singing unless I read the lyrics first. It’s a weird closer for me.

I’ve never graded a song on number of time signatures before. You kids are always coming up with something new.

It's oftentimes dope when this band utilizes odd or changing time signatures in songs. Unitive / East is not one of those songs

I actually revisited M/M last week. I like it, but it doesn't move the needle for me very much relative to the rest of their discography. I do think Words in the Water is one of the best songs they've done and I love Yellow Belly, Blur, and Anthology too. With that said, the album kinda just sits in one stylistic territory across much of its run and I think many of the songs are just good, not great. I also don't appreciate how loud the mix is. I had to turn it down in my car from the level I normally listen to music at because it was hurting my ears at times.

I much prefer TBEITBN. I think they wrote stronger songs overall on that one for a more straightforward alt rock record.

Anyone else's DeepDiscount order of Artist Revisited get canceled? Glad I was able to grab another copy (in my preferred variant) from Bandcamp.

Fuck. I just got one too. I am so pissed because I bought this variant for my little brother as a gift.
