Heart Attack Man tour drops tomorrow

 

F moshers and crowd surfers. After seeing a limp body for an extended period of time as a direct result, thinking she was dead, I now have ptsd at live shows.

 

Offspring / Simple Plan / Sum 41 dates are trickling out.

Any word if there's an opener on the tour? Kinda hope not, would be cool to see all three get full sets.

I think it’s funny that this one tweet has gotten so much attention. She made basically the same tweet after last year’s LDB and it didn’t really get picked up by anyone who wasn’t at the fest.

for some reason this year, LDB coverage and discourse is spreading like wildfire. I’m sure that will only continue as hate5six starts releasing the set videos.

look at the replies, quote tweets, how she’s engaging. it’s def not a “hey this is bad look at all we had to do” but more of “let’s keep it up!!” thing based on the interactions IMO

There is a local news blog in Chicago that puts out similar info after St. Patrick's and TBOX (Twelve Bars Of Xmas - huge bar crawl in Wrigleyville mainly attended by bros and the bro-adjacent.) They announce the number of arrests, police incidents and stuff like that and it gets a fair amount of attention, so I see the appeal.

 

You all can post about how silly hardcore shows are here and how silly you think hard moshing and stage diving is, but things aren't gonna change at these shows. When it's woven into the fabric of what goes on and is a presumed risk of the social contract you have at these shows, it's commonplace at the front of these rooms. You can also stand in the back or by the bar like my old ass at this point.

I also wouldn't personally risk doing anything like that to risk injury at a hardcore show in the U.S. given how wonderful our healthcare system is, but I digress.

Exactly. If it’s not your thing, the good news is that kind of behavior is really localized to just this one genre that you never have to check out. And even then, crowdkilling only happens for an even smaller subset of hardcore bands. The only reason it was so prevalent at LDB is that the Louisville scene has some notoriously violent moshers and there were several notable beatdown bands on the bill.

I’m personally not a fan of crowdkilling, and thanks to other injuries currently have pretty weak and wobbly legs so I wasn’t stage diving either. But just by knowing the bands and having a little situational awareness I was able to go the whole weekend without injury while still getting in the pit and dancing a fair amount.

the people getting hurt for the most part weren’t just getting it “for no reason”. They were actively contributing to the chaos, having fun, and knew the risks of their actions. Most of them will do it again despite their injuries. My buddy who’s new to hardcore got popped in the nose, plugged up the blood, and got back out there. The vocalist of one of the biggest Louisville hxc bands broke his nose and dislocated his shoulder and said he had a great time.

it’s just a different culture.

 

I don't think its silly at all, and I didn't mean to offend anyone. I just prefer shows where those that want to go crazy in the pit keep it to themselves and don't assume that just by virtue of being there, you want to get in on it. I think it's important that even for heavy shows, where the norm is moshing, there's a place for those that like the music and enjoy it in their own preferred way. Now, I by no ones care or get annoyed if a stray body part knocks me about, but I would get annoyed if someone targeted me and tried to rile me up and get me into the pit when it's clear I just want to chill and listen and bang my head.

 

I love hardcore and think crowdkilling is wack as hell

I don’t like it either but telling fans of beatdown bands not to crowdkill is like telling metal fans not to do that cheesy rowboat thing in the pit. It’s kinda their thing.

I do think it was wack when people were doing it to bands like Terror or Malevolence

 

I love when consent goes out the window when it comes to protecting the mosh culture. Attending a show doesn’t mean you consent to being touched and harmed. All the “you know what you’re in for” excuses are bs just to protect bullies and perpetuate “accepted” violence. Love how the 5% moshers have more rights than everyone else. “Stand in the back” - great, I paid money so now I have to have garbage views because I don’t want to be punched or get a concussion. So stupid

I'm not a mosher and I don't care if someone wants to mosh as long as it's not just one person at a show where it's clearly not a moshing crowd. There's always one drunk guy trying to start shit.
