I'm listening to Finders Keepers right now and loving it. It's been a few years since I read Mr Mercedes so I've forgotten some of the character details but all the new stuff is great

It is King on a literature high talking a lot about authors I've never read but still

  2. I love Finders Keepers so much, and I really don’t like where he took that series with End of Watch.

I agree with this a lot. Loved Finders Keepers but I remember feeling pretty meh on End of Watch. I just wanted to get through it to complete the trilogy but not for enjoyment haha

I know it got shot down before, but I hope it happens.

My first thought when I heard about Flanagan jumping ship was "doesn't Amazon hold some sort of rights to the Dark Tower?" Plus the interview he did with IGN where he called it his Everest and said that if he did it it would follow the books as faithfully as possible, especially early on (I think everyone agrees some changes need to be made for screen in the later books).

Would love to see this happen.

Okay I am back. I am about 250 pages into Dreamcatcher (further than where I previous DNF'd years ago) and have no idea why I did that? I think I was taken back by the abruptness of randomly going to the military story and at the time didn't care enough for it, but like ... I am loving this. Just got introduced to Kurtz and that brutal mission.

Maybe now that I am closer to 30 rather than mid-twenties and can relate a bit closer to the characters it is hitting differently, but I am excited to keep on going with this.

I love Dreamcatcher, and I'm sad that they butchered it in the film adaptation. Real "look what they've done to my boy" energy.

I'm in them minority that loves Dreamcatcher (it's my second favorite King behind IT) and the even smaller minority that loves the movie.

And I accept that there's all sorts of nostalgia tied to both.

The Raft is so much fun. I saw Creepshow 2 before reading it, but it's so much better than the movie. I love the late summer feel and Deke getting sucked through the tiny space between the slats of the raft and projectile vomiting a thick stream of blood is really hilarious and dark.

    What's everyone's favorite King short?

The Jaunt is the most memorable for me. The Raft is certainly up there. I think it was a novella, but the hospital/surgery one is also a favorite. Which also made me remember the outhouse story...

  16. The Jaunt might be the scariest thing King has written.

I honestly haven’t dived into his short story collections. I own them just haven’t read them. Not even Different Seasons either.

I typically am not a short story/novella reader for no reason at all, but which do you guys say is his too collection? Four Past Midnight?

Night Shift is a pretty incredible collection of his scariest stuff, but also it's hard to argue with Different Seasons which has The Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil and the story Stand by Me was based on all in one place. that's a beautiful collection of novellas

Yeah I feel like Different Seasons shouldn’t even count because I know it’s real good with Shawshank & Stand By Me lol … but good to know on Night Shift, thanks!

Trying to plan out what King I'm going to read next, finishing some other stuff up and probably won't get to anything until the weather starts getting warmer. What are some good Summer reads of his? Already did The Body and It.

    Desperation
    Bag of Bones
    Duma Key

These are a bit "lesser known" if you will but are good for summer settings.

That gave me the worst nightmares as a kid. It's dated, but there's a lot of classic King fun in there. I haven't rewatched Rose Red as an adult, I'm assuming it holds up less well, but I loved that one too.
