Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness - Tilt At The Wind No More (March 31, 2023) Album • Page 6

  1. Love Leaving Through The Window and never thought the band sounded like NFG. I think that's the first time I've ever heard that comparison.

New album reminds me of Zombies a lot, big lush pop, even name drops it.

Nobody tells you when you're young is incredible. Andrew always feels at his best with these stripped down story driven songs.

To a non-scene person, "My Friends Over You" and "If U C Jordan" sounded fairly similar, particularly vocal-style wise (the Drive Thru whine)

I have no idea what you’re talking about

You.....really don't hear ANY similarities in the vocal style/delivery of a lot of the Drive-Thru stuff in 2002?

If you're a big fan of the genre then, yes, of course there are differences. My point was to a more casual listener, the vocal style on Audioboxer was not that far removed from Jordan from NFG's vocal style at the time (the high-pitch whine). If I'm the ONLY one who hears that, it's on me.

Probbbbbbbably same. I'd have to think about it but it's probably between that and Lights and Buzz. I also do really like Doris Day and Locked Doors

I truly enjoy most of his b-sides, but my favorite is "Meet Me at My Window."

Hmmm....I can maaaaaaaybe hear it a tiny bit in If U C Jordan a little bit.....but Andrew's voice just never gets nearly as nasally as NFG's does haha

Yeah to the point where I wonder if that particular song (it was the lead single) was produced in a way to specifically cater to the NFG fans.

My Racing Thoughts, Television, and People Running are a few highlights from People & Things for me. I really like that album. The only Andrew McMahon stuff I've ever been lukewarm about was Zombies, but even then Love & Great Buildings, Fire Escape, and Dead Man's Dollar are some of my favorite AMITW songs. Even his meh albums have some of his best songs, I just love this man haha

The only 2 Andrew songs I don't at least like are "If You C Jordan" and "See Her On the Weekend".

I don't hate "If You C Jordan," but Andrew always struck me as more thoughtful and mature than a lot of the songwriters in the scene at that time, and that song (and "Drunk Girl," to a lesser extent) clash with the better stuff on that album.

I go back and forth with Drunk Girl. On one hand, making yourself the “victim” in a drunken interaction while you’re the sober one is bizarre. But if you can accept that he was the one being used, I think it’s less problematic. I think it comes down to how you define drunk and at what point is someone drinking responsible for their actions.

But then also, he was a teenager when he wrote it, so I don’t hold it much against him either way. But it’s not a favorite for me and I would never request it to be played.

I remember during the solo shows at the Coach House back in 2017, he reiterated that he was the victim in drunk girl when introducing it and it just felt… gross.
