    Prestigious Prestigious

I had a dream last night that on opening day Justin Verlander left after the first inning because of an injury and and then Scherzer came in and also got hurt folks now I am worried about two old men at the top of our rotation

  2. and deGrom starts a healthy 32 games winning Cy Young

  3. Of the three mentioned Verlander is the only one I’d bet on to make 30+ starts but I’d be pretty confident in that

    I don't think that was a dream.

  9. You ever have the experience of being utterly convinced some guy was at least a decent, if not pretty good player, but then you look him up and learn he was actually total dogshit? Just happened to me with Tony Womack (1.6 CAREER fWAR/2.5 rWAR over 5389 career PAs)

In my defense his one season as a Cardinal (2004) was a big positive offensive outlier, but still...

Haha yup all the time when I go down the Baseball Reference trade rabbit hole, looking up former top prospects or when I’m playing an old school video game.

Last player I looked up was Brandon Duckworth because I was looking at Billy Wagner’s stats. Guy had a -1.5 WAR yet somehow pitched 511 innings.

I also just looked up Brandon Wood (-3.4 WAR in 700 at bats) because he was suppose to be Mike Trout before Mike Trout was Mike Trout.

  13. Dude averaged like 6 WAR/season in his ages 25-32 seasons career peak and yet i feel like he’s never gotten a serious look. Make it make sense

  14. Jim Edmonds deserved a better ballot treatment too: one and done with just 2.5%!!

I know I’m biased because he was a Cardinal and he’s not the greatest human being probably lol but dude has a .900 career OPS and was all over sportscenter every night for 15 years making impossible looking plays in CF

He’s like Andruw Jones but not quite as good and without the racism/body shaming/DV (that we know of) elements

    Griffey Jr - .907 ops
    Edmonds - .903 ops

    That's wild

  17. Yeah but Griffey has over 3000 more PAs because he came up so early, even though Edmonds was relatively healthier later in his career I think.

I think the main reasons Edmonds is ignored are: (1) He was overshadowed by Pujols/Rolen/others during his Cards tenure, which was the best offensive phase of his career; and (2) The shape of his offensive production just isn't as sexy. He had power (just shy of 400 career homers) but in a power-mad era it wasn't elite power. His one weird trick that made him an elite player was that he just got on base: never had a sub-.350 OBP season from 1995-2006 and had several above .400.

You put that together with at least very good baseline CF defense, plus the ability to make the flashy plays and I don't know why the hell he got 2.5 fucking percent lol

Didn’t Crawford get into trouble recently with some DV stuff? There were also rumors of him doing shady deals with a record company he was trying to start up to.
