Riot Fest 2023 Tour • Page 49

Discussion in 'Tour Forum' started by ItsAndrew, Sep 18, 2022.

  1. Unless they said something specific, the idea of turning Soldier Field into a festival park (like the Summerfest grounds in Milwaukee, I guess?) has been floated for a while. I have to imagine that would take a few years even after the Bears move out though.

The Tribune ran an article (behind a paywall that I was able to get past on my phone but now can't get past on my desktop for some reason).

Seemed like it was more just somebody blindly speculating about using the venue to hold festivals and using Riot as an example of something they might look into maybe at some point in the future.

Kind of a big nothing burger.

My understanding is that the stadium would largely remain for the Fire but they would move the northerly island pavilion to the south lot.

Odd thing is that they did earlier today.

I hate how these articles just change without any sort of change tracking.

Sorry if this is old news, but Heat Wave is moving from Douglass Park to Northerly Island this year

I'm putting the chances at Riot moving there to like less that 1% because of football season

  10. Is Heat Wave moving to the pavilion or the park itself? Just eyeballing it on Google Maps, it seems like a decent sized park, although the layout might be weird with how long it is. It's also annoying to get to, but that's a whole other thing. Would the football season be an issue even if the Bears are away that week?

Heatwave Music Festival Chicago - Home

    Only says Northerly Island

Schedules aren't out yet for the NFL, but I'd assume they'd eventually have a home game same weekend as Riot

Not Riot Fest-related, but I just stumbled across this wild AF interview with the singer from SR-71 circa 2002 and uh... Boy has this not aged well.

Rewind with Mitch Allan, 11/28/02 | Metal Sludge (TW: Homophobia)

Some of these bands should be eternally grateful that things were a little less documented back then. Because OOF. This is right up there with the Fred Durst/Taproot answering machine message in terms of cringe.

I really want there to be an oral history documentary of emo/pop-punk bands beefing with metal and more generic alt-rock acts.

reminds me of the Finch Vs Disturbed fight and the Story of the year vs Godsmack fight. Team screamo all the way in both of those spats.

Same. This SR-71 interview is just... Such a relic. The level of ego is particularly mind-blowing. And hilarious considering how trash all of their music is with the exception of like, 2-3 songs maybe.

Best beef imo is the Voodoo Glowskulls beef with Hickey. Hickey played some shows with them and was vocal about some of the hypocrisy of the setup at the time and the Voodoo Glow Skulls kicked them out of a show. On their way out, Hickey stole the Glow Skulls’ trumpet or trombone. They proceeded to take it with them on their tour and take pictures with it. The glow skulls called and left a bunch of voicemail that included them using offensive language that would get them canceled today. One of the voicemails included the line, “we are calling you on Epitaph time and Epitaph money”. Hickey recorded every voicemail. They recorded them playing the trumpet they stole over top of the voicemails. They then released a split with the glow skulls that included the voicemail and trumpet track with one of their own original songs and called it the Hickey/Voodoo Glow Skulls split. The insert included the pictures they took with the trumpet. The mailed the trumpet back to the glow skulls with pudding inside. 100% of the proceeds of the split went to a local AIDS nonprofit.

I have this 7" and it's straight-up one of the funniest things ever. My partner got it for me as a gift a few years back because she knew how obsessed with it I was... The dude from VGS comes off like such an egotistical scumbag too: "You know us. We're the headliners. You know, the band with the Epitaph money and the deli trays."

Fun fact too! The song "Hickey Ave" by the Lawrence Arms is partially inspired by this and if you listen closely at the start of that song, you can hear Brendan saying "What's up, we're the Lawrence Arms and we're calling you using Epitaph's money."

That guy did way more than just being the "singer from SR-71"...

He produced music for some HUGE artists like Demi Lovato, Avril Lavigne, Selena Gomez, Fall Out Boy and more.

Edit: After reading this whole thing it looks like this mainly done "in character".

I mean, good for him, I guess? He's one of several relatively faceless pop-rock guys from that era to go on to a successful career in pop songwriting. That interview he did in 2002 is still total douchy as hell.

If it was meant to be a "character" an in-text interview two years after your band ceased to be relevant, anyway, is maybe not the format for that. LOL

Enter Shikari for Riot Fest would be a great time. Awesome band to see on a big stage. Saw them at Warped Tour Vienna (yes Austria) in 2013 and it was a madhouse, although they're bigger in mainland Europe than the US

I have been wanting Enter Shikari at Riot since the first year I went. I bet we could break the record they established in 2011 for most crowdsurfers

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

I really enjoy this year’s lineup, but the headliners seem like a big downgrade from last year’s. Or maybe that’s just me…

Still fun though, that goes without saying
