I'm glad everyone in my theater was on board and laughing through WTP, that was an experience for sure. So bad but I had a blast.

  14. Rewatched SIgns last night and thought it was really effective aside from some of the writing/dialogue (which is never Shyamalan's strong suit) and then...the twist. Can anyone help me overlook the twist? Because I want to love this movie lol. I just can't believe beings with the technology to travel here would come to a plant predominantly made of what is a lethal substance to them.

well there's a long-running fan theory that they're not aliens, they're demons. it explains some stuff (the water is holy water, that conspicuously placed line about "three small cities in the Middle East") and ties into Graham's arc a lot more nicely, but you end up with similar sorts of questions about why demons would make crop circles and can't go through doors lmao. it's not perfect by any means

my personal take is it's the kind of silly but endearing Shyamalan bullshit that I'm willing to overlook when, as is the case with Signs, the rest of the movie is just so fucking good. I have more than enough goodwill from that opening scene, Merrill's scene with the alien footage, Graham's monologue about the kids being born (for my money this is the best rebuttal against people who argue Shyamalan could never write great dialogue) and all the rest. I'm happy to handwave it away, like fuck it maybe the aliens had just never encountered water before or something, I'm all good with it

Twist aside that movie is probably the scariest movie I've ever seen imo lol

    Signs that is

I was 10 when Signs came out and it was there for me too. I'd seen stuff that was more unrelentingly intense like The Shining and Blair Witch, but man something about the lowkey vibe in Signs, that super humanistic way Shyamalan uses his camera and writes those characters made the horror so much more visceral for me

honestly all these years later I still can't see the video scene, the pantry door or the TV screen scare without regressing into a kid and getting fucking terrified. hell of a movie

  21. Is it holy because it came out of a former reverend's well? Lmao. That is an interesting theory, even if I don't necessarily buy it. I think I'm mostly with you. The emotional elements of the movie really, really work for me. I think it's one of his better films.

If you were born in the 90s, there's a good chance that birthday party scare is burned into your brain

I was in 8th grade when I saw it in the theater. Fucked me up haha. The silhouette on the roof also really creeped me out. Things like that get to me lol

honestly I don't know enough about how holy water is meant to function in real life to dispute it lol. I kinda just thought if a religious person says it's holy then it is? if Abigail Breslin believes this water is holy then who am I to argue?

really the reveal is on a similar level of silly whichever version you rock with lmao, just depends on how much everything before works for you. for me it's neck and neck with Unbreakable as his best

  24. My friends and I saw Signs opening day, and we made tinfoil hats to the theater. The point on top of my hat was at least 4 feet tall. Don't worry, I didn't wear it during the movie, so everyone behind me was able to see fine.
