looking at their career arc, imo AL feels more like a deviation than this

  2. i agree with that

I strongly disagree, songs like Tell Me How can fit on any of their albums

Someone already said this, but I think there’s a pretty clear thread that can be traced between TIW and S/T. Songs like Fast In My Car, Now, and even stuff like Future, Grow Up, and Be Alone definitely share some DNA with the stuff on this album.

definitely didn’t get that vibe, so no worries. and all things considered I don’t even really see AL as a deviation, per se. I think their trajectory makes a lot of sense overall, I guess for me that’s just the one where they leaned the most into their pop sensibilities over their rock ones on the whole, and it feels like their most “textural” record from a production standpoint if that makes any sense.

    forbidden chalice.

Fast In My Car's pre-chorus really paved the way for a lot of concepts in the new record. id even say its one of their most important songs in retrospect

Unrelated to any of this but I ALMOST sang that’s what you get at karaoke last Friday at an almost empty gay bar in Maine but chickened out and sang sugar we’re going down instead

my brain keeps thinking the beginning of Liar is Descansos and every single listen I go “man, this is over already?” and then instantly remember its only track 8

The reality is that I genuinely thought No Friend was the closer. And my brain has no memory of Tell Me How until recently and I assumed it was a b-side. Not sure what happened there.

I know for a lot of folks it’s where the album dips but imo Liar and Crave, gun to my head, might be my favorite two back-to-back tracks here.

I haven’t settled into knowing the names of any individual songs outside the singles yet, which I guess one could argue as a ding against it. But, there’s no point where I don’t really dig what I’m hearing. It’s consistent in a good way and flows so nicely.

I’m sure I’ll hone in on which particular songs are favorites with more time.
