My conservative brother-in-law sent this to my wife since we're both against the NC version of the "don't say gay" bill and the (supportive) parents of a gender awesome/curious/questioning almost 7-year old.

I almost don't want to share it because I find it so appalling (and not for the reasons the "whistleblower" wants me to find it appalling) but there are so many things wrong in it, it's already making the rounds on the right, and I also find it telling that it came from Bari Weiss' publication:

I Thought I Was Saving Trans Kids. Now I’m Blowing the Whistle.

I think the only two things I can probably agree with in this article....and "Agree" is probably a strong word, but more of a "okay I see the point"...is the too easily going on the drugs and the "groupthink" or whatever it is they called it. I was under the impression that young people had to do more counseling with a psychologist first before getting the drugs. Given the nature of teenagers and pre-teens, it probably isn't a great idea to give them drugs too quickly before some amount of counseling. But the stuff I have read before basically said they go through a process before they get approved for drugs. So either this place she worked at seemed to be doing it "wrong" or she's making it up.

And I've definitely noticed and even heard groups of students kind of 'influence' each other for lack of a better word in choosing their identities. Mostly it's an increase in girls identifying as non-binary rather than male though. Like I heard a group of friends talking in my class this year where a non-binary they/them (currently presents as female) was explaining why they do so and i didn't hear all the details but a girl responded something like "Well yeah I'm confused about who I am too, like I don't know who I am. Maybe I'm not a girl?" or something like that, can't remember the exact language it was back in October. But it did make me wonder if there were some amount of teens out there confused about who they are and are thinking that makes them trans when really it's an identity crisis that a lot of kids that age go through that isn't related to gender haha. I had a student last year that became one of my "hangers on" that always talks to me and they are also non-binary while presenting as a girl and they said something about how they think they're trans but they're not really sure they just want to identify as non-binary for now until they figure it out and etc. And their brother is a trans boy too so etc.

It's all very interesting to me and I don't really feel well educated enough on the topic to say much about it so I usually just read and observe what others are saying.....but it's easy enough to respect their wishes to be referred to as they/them or he/him or she/her or etc, until they figure it out. The people that make a big deal about that make no sense to me.
