yeah listening back through this version just affirms this is my favorite thrice album. that it sounds so good 20 years later replayed by the same band should tell you something about the core songwriting on the record. they don’t sound like old punks trying to relive the glory days. this could’ve been their new album and it’d be a 10 lol

As big as this album was for me… I listened to Beggars in between Artist Revisited plays this morning, and that one definitely hit the perfect sweet spot for me. Absolutely adore that thing.

Even so, this re-record does give these songs a beautiful new breath of fresh air. I miss the strings on “Melting Point of Wax,” but otherwise, this seems very likely to be the definitive version. It makes this my clear, close number 2 all over again. (If I can cheat, Dustin’s Carry the Fire is my clear number 3.)

Whatever happened to that side project Dustin was gonna do with his brother who was in Eye Alaska? That thing that was gonna be different from Thrice or his solo work? I’m guessing at this point that’s never gonna happen, but I remember years ago it sounding pretty neat.

The original was such a formative album for me that I think it’ll always be my favorite version. It, along with Define the Great Line and Panopticon by Isis, was my gateway to heavier music outside of all the 90s bands I loved in middle school. I’ll never forget buying it the summer after 8th grade and spending the next year learning the whole album on guitar. That said, this new version is much more in line with my current tastes and I can see it being the version I listen to more often moving forward.

It's wild looking back at chart positions and seeing how differently songs performed vs my memory of them. I felt like Stare At The Sun was much bigger than All That's Left

All That’s Left in Madden 2004 was my introduction to Thrice

couldn't be further from the truth. Thrice's catalog couldn't be more varied.

I dunno. Beggars sounds exactly like T & C. Which sounds just like Come All You Weary. Which obviously borrows from Firebreather. Which is a direct rip off of Stare At the Sun. Which is then referenced for My Soul.

Ordered the clear version. Just need Vheissu and I'll have all the Thrice albums I want (already have the first repress of Alchemy, one of the botched represses of Beggars).

Doubt I'll get to the show though as I can't do two Friday night shows downtown in two weeks (Eras tour and then this)

The production on this just hits so much harder for me. clearer guitar, bass is legible, drums are full. Dustin’s voice is better.

This is so much cooler than I thought it would be. falling in love with the silhouette, paper tigers, don’t tell. All over again.

Not trying to overly defend them, but I urge anyone who loved up to Major/Minor to give Horizons East more spins, to me that record is absolutely top tier Thrice, if you are looking for a post hardcore record it won't be for you, but its a very dynamic and interesting album musically.

  18. Just listened to the Palms EP and that first song is so good and I think people that have slept on their last few albums are super missing out.
