    Things have changed.

I don't care who puts it out as long as it's good!

i'm glad that review mentions the underwhelming mix on 'the news'.

a bunch of people on here were praising it when it dropped and i was just gobsmacked because it's soooo frustratingly thin. that chorus should be HUGE and it isn't.

it had not dawned on me how close the album is (partially because TV and video games have been my main medium for my downtime after work recently) I can’t wait for it though.

I 100% believe this based on the pre-release singles. Except for a few stand-out all time classics they are by far my favorite songs by the band and I really appreciate them pushing their own sonical boundaries and appropriating a style that I've always liked (but prefer it being done by Paramore)

Just out of curiosity and not a prickly manner, has anyone released an album and not said it was they best they've made?

Every time a band releases a new album that's what they say. I've never seen a band be like "sorry guys, it kind of just isn't as good as our old material" or "man, we really bombed this time, hope you buy it!"

I think bands feeling nervous about sharing new material is fairly common. Especially if it involves a change in sound. Plus if they have had success in the past, the pressure to do something even bigger can be crushing.

There can be recency bias from the perspective of the artist, for sure, but why shouldn't there be? I would hope they feel passionate about what they're making at the moment. At the same time, I trust that an artist like Hayley has a balanced assessment of their discography and the ways they've developed when she says that.

I would say no one ever says it's *not* their best album, but plenty of artists release an album without specifically calling it their best

I think that would be foolish to admit right away, but you can often see bands just not saying much about their output, not being excited at all. Look at Sunny Day Real Estate with their release of LP2 heheh (though that was for personal reasons I guess, the album is still amazing)

Also, with bands like Paramore you can really say they explore for new sounds and solutions, it's most likely a step up each time. Until it's not Tom Delong with his "this new album will change the world", it's totally cool (I'd say even Tom is admirable with that as he seems to really believe that)

  12. They didn't tease the album in an elaborate way though, so it must not be THAT good.

I was just curious because I feel like I remember maybe Lupe Fiasco being like "the studio/label made me make this album this way, I didn't want to" haha and that's the only thing I could think of

Paramore is my favorite band in the world and it is going to be really fucking hard for me to think any album could be better than After Laughter but seeing that Hayley thinks it is their best album yet makes me really excited. I also didn't even realize that this is out next week I feel like it snuck up fast:hearteyes:

imo every band making music *should* believe that their new one is their best or else why are you doing it

after laughter is a masterpiece. i honestly don't think they can top that but at least it exists even if their next releases don't come close.
