My kids school did "parents and pastries" this morning. We went in early and ate donuts and read books!

    Update.

Night 1: we did the Ferber Method, with the 3/5/10 minute check-ins. It was very hard to just lay her in the crib and walk away, because we usually hold her on our chest and snuggle her until she sleeps. She cried through a whole cycle and a 10 minute check-in, but fell asleep after that. Woke up a little while later, and it was off and on for a little while until she eventually passed out around midnight and slept until the usual time, which is 7 AMish. Overall not too bad for diving headfirst into it. We also sleep in the same room so that wasn't fun.

Night 2: We moved the mattress into the living room, which changed everything. Night 2 called for the 5/10/12 minute check-in. We went in at 5 minutes and then she didn't even make it to the 10 minute mark before she was out for the ENTIRE night until 7:15. So proud of her!

Looks like we'll be hauling our mattress into the living every night until we move next month and have our own room.

  3. proud of you! big step!

bedtime for older kids comes with its own challenges: last night it took around two hours to get my daughter to go to sleep because apparently a girl in her class told her about Pennywise the clown >:-( had a long talk about how movies are just actors playing make believe, etc. this morning she came into the bedroom and said "even if Pennywise was real it wouldn't matter because Chelsea (my wife/her step-mom) said he's just a spider at the end" so I guess that was helpful :crylaugh::verysad:

    hot damn, sleep training update

Mentioned before Night 2 went well. We checked in at 5 minutes and she was out before the second check in.

Night 3: Didn't even make it to the first check in before she was out, but she did cry for maybe 3 minutes, then slept through the night.

Night 4: cried for maybe 2 minutes, then slept until around 5 AM. Went in there to lay her down and rub her back, and she fell back asleep for a few hours.

Night 5 (tonight): she cried for literally 4 seconds, then got quiet and she's already out.

    This shit works

damn, she slept through the night again. We've still been holding her for naps, but today my wife tried to just lay her down and walk out. Minimal crying, a little bit of playing with her lovie, then she was out. Crazy stuff.

Night 1 for us last night was a disaster, he cried so hard that he spat up everywhere and basically gagged real loud. Apparently that's normal, but it freaked us out enough to give up. Tonight we have it another go... Took an hour of pretty wild cry screaming, then fell asleep... Time will tell how the rest of the night and next nights go

Ugh sorry, it is definitely rough at the beginning. My wife was crying the whole second night. Hopefully it gets easier from here on out. I know it's different for every kid. Hang in there!!

On the positive side, after the hour of screaming he only woke for one 20-min stretch then was out all night, so that was a win! Starting night 3 right now, so far the very screams are much less loud/violent than last night, fingers crossed....

Our first musical theater performance is today. Our little Oompa-Loompa is doing 3 performances today and it’s been a sprint since we woke up lol

Is it bad that I've started dreaming in the miss Rachel voice?

  23. Anyone got jogging stroller recs? They seem outrageously expensive. My wife takes care of our 9 month old 90% of the time (her choice; we’d pony up for daycare if/when she actually wants to return to the workforce full time or more than the 5-10 hrs/wk she does now) and I feel guilty going on runs when I could be giving my wife a break from Brigid. Given that Brigid now is waking up earlier and earlier I’m thinking maybe this summer I could hit the park with her in the mornings before work…

And I’m very much a casual re running ability lol, we’re talking 9 minute miles sometimes and recently just 2-4 miles typically (although I was averaging more like 5-6 pre parenthood, alas).

I can’t remember the name of the brand we have I’ll have to look I’m sure it’s a Greco. They’re expensive but ultimately worth it for off road trails near my house

  25. Hah we have Graco for a ton of stuff. Lemme know thanks. I mostly am on bike paths and sidewalks but it would be cool to be able to hit some dirt/gravel stuff too without being worried
