Caught up on the Amory Wars storyline last night (hadn't paid much attention since No World For Tomorrow).

Sheesh! Claudio has a heck of an imagination.

Saw the Vaxis tour in the UK in October having not seen them since maybe 04?

Seriously good, loud and fun. Brilliant energy and crowd was so good. Definitely recommend catching them.

Saw them twice within the last 2 years, the first was more of a legacy setlist and felt really kind of boring and uninspired and the second was for the new album and might've been the absolute best I've ever heard them out of the 10+ times I've seen them. I think the new songs really reinvigorated them. Going to sit this one out, but it should be a blast.

Has On the Brink ever been played live? That’s going to absolutely go off.

Oh man Pier 17 is one of my favorite venues of all time, it's the NY equivalent of Red Rocks

if they could just improve the sound quality it'd be 10/10

The only time I've seen the band was on a small one-off tour they did. Production was scaled back a bit, so I’d love to see that blown out a bit more.

same! That was like my second show ever. Don't remember Blood Brothers but the guy from Dredg destroyed his little autoharp or whatever it was on stage, and I remember being blown away by mwY. I had never heard of them at the time and thought Aaron was crazy, dude was spinning in circles and banging pots on stage. Legend.

Has anyone read the Amory Wars comics? I've been curious about them for years but the collections are not cheap. Are they legitimately good?

I was kind of disappointed in them. I liked the idea better than the execution.

I'm not a comic book person, but I'm thinking the first two are more comics for people that like Coheed more than people who like comics. Never read the GA stuff but I wouldn't be surprised if they improved over time. I like knowing what's going on at a high level and don't prefer to go deep in the weeds on the story.

EDIT: I will say, The Afterman is probably my favorite story they've done. It's just slightly more hopeful, and I like the artwork that came with the deluxe edition.

I got the first Good Apollo graphic novel wayyy back in high school and while it's cool to have, that story did not make sense at all lol

The first two issues are definitely limited by Claud's independence at the time with no real budget or resources. The GA graphic novel is cool but more abstract and the story is all over the place. The SSTB and IKSSE3 series from Boom were a big step up, but the most recent GA series is definitely the strongest. Hoping NWFT is even leaps above that. I feel like the Vaxis illustrated novellas are really the sweet spot for the stories as they aren't too rooted in either the prose or the art but a really good blend of both.
