Fully vaxxed, thought I got it again from family over Thanksgiving, turns out it was just flu, which hit our family harder than when we got COVID. Being sick sucks.

 

They encored with only Two Graves and Impossible tonight. Which is kind of a bummer. If anything I expected them to add a song to their usual due to the rescheduling. But I guess not. Oh well. They still killed it.

 

Alright. I gotta crash. Gotta do this all over again tomorrow.

But here is Two Graves from tonight. I also got Never Take Friendship Personal, A Day Late, and A Feel Good Drag on my channel. Plan on getting Cable Car, Alexithymia, Dismantle, and maybe Fin tomorrow night.

 

Hell yea. Adding that to songs I am going to video.

Threw on Devotion today and that truly is just a staggering collection of songs

 

You know, I think the OG Vital is way better. I know you may be referring to all three “albums” known as Devotion, but the new version of Vital just doesn’t hit as hard to me.

 

They played like two minutes of a new song over the speakers while we waited for the encore. Sounded sick.

 

And they did play Self Starter haha the encore was Circles then Self Starter

 

Any video of the new song? Might be the one they played the last night in ATL. You’ll likely hear it tomorrow. And it’s a scorcher

 

I decided to not video it. It would fit on Silverline, which isn’t really shocking at all. I think it’s different cause I don’t know if I would call this a scorcher.

 

Here is Dismantle Repair from last night. The Unwinding Cable Car, Alexithymia, (*fin), Circles, and Self-Starter are also on my channel.

 

LOL they just said Burns Out Brighter was their least favorite song on the album and gave a choice between it and a request. We all voted and request won. They played Ready Fuels. What a fun moment.

They asked who actually wanted to hear Burns Out and maybe 3 people raised their hand.

 

I actually liked that song for what it was at the time.

 

That's one of my favorites on the album. I've actually grown to love it more as time goes by. I would've been so sad.

 

I always thought it was fine. Not great, but I didn’t hate it or anything. But given the choice between it and another song live? I’ll take the unknown request. It ending up being Readyfuels is just even better. The band loved doing that and the crowd loved it. A handful of people were bummed, but as Stephen told them, “this is America, prepare to be disappointed by voting.” Haha

As for the rest of the set, they killed it of course. Only encored with Impossible though. Little bummed about such short encores all three nights, but it is what it is. The fact that they played Self-Starter from my request kind of makes up for it.

The vast majority of their stage banter was about local stuff, down to Winter Haven getting a Chili’s back in the day. Most of which is kind of boring if you aren’t from here. But there was a couple stories I hadn’t heard before about the band.

The first is that New Surrender was written right after or during the time where Stephen got married. This led to a lot of the lyrics being about marriage or things that pop up in a newly married persons life. Breathe, in particular, is the best example of this. For some reason I never thought of it that way.

The second story starts off with a similar explanation on their feelings about New Surrender that they explained in the Paper Tigers live stream. Being on a new label, it being a major label, pressure from themselves, pressure from the label, fan expectations, adding Christian into the writing process, and just struggling with who they were as a band and people. He said they don’t hate the album, it was just such a stressful time and they felt they had so much to prove that the pressure was unreal. But then it shifted to a new layer to all this. Stephen did say that Universal treated them very well overall, but this incident did happen. It was right around the time New Surrender got released. The band had just finished a sold out New York show and the label had rented out the entire upper floor to celebrate. It was a party, Stephen had his best friends (the rest of the band) and his, at the time, newly married wife there. He was with his wife and one of the top 3 guys at Universal came over to them. He started off tell him that the label believed in him, the band, and the album. But he said he needed one thing from Stephen to really make the album sell. He said he needed Stephen to either cheat on his wife with a celebrity or to get arrested. Obviously, Stephen did not do either one. And A Feel Good Drag went on to be #1 for 55 weeks on some chart.

Speaking of A Feel Good Drag, Joey brought up the lack of scream on the new version and said Stephen should scream it for this performance. Stephen said if he did, he wouldn’t be able to sing the rest of the songs. He asked if there was a screamer in the audience and this guy volunteered. They played the song and passed the mic to this guy for the scream and he crushed it. It was such a cool moment.

All three nights were great. I am still tired. But it was super worth it.

Here is Readyfuels from last night. I also have The Resistance, Breathe, Younglife, and Impossible on my channel. Impossible is still uploading at this moment actually, but it’ll be up shortly.

Definitely enjoyed the stint in ATL and I’m excited for their future.

 

I didn’t video the scream. Since I filmed the song on Thursday, I didn’t want to film it again. I thought about just grabbing the scream part, but I was too busy jamming.

 

Oh, apparently Impossible never finished uploading earlier for some reason. It is now up if anyone cares to see it.

 

I really hope I get a tour date close enough to see them again. I only saw them once when Blueprints came out and that needs to be fixed

 

Does anyone have any idea what these guys plans are for 2023? Somehow never seen them and would love to
