the fact that this went completely ignored in a thread full of people who like to pretend they know what they are talking about is a true testament to how much the general public refuses to understand the realities of ticketing. there should probably be a live music business specific thread at this point.

his latest is even better: Fixing Ticketing?

People for some reason don't feel like concert ticketing should be held to the supply-demand model that everything else is and also refuse to accept that any time a ticket is expensive, it's because the act they are going to see has a high fee.

  4. if that’s the case, then Ticketmaster should add fee transparency to the checkout process. detail what amounts/percentages are going where and see how that goes over. they’re doing themselves zero favors by keeping it a single black box.

I’d be fine with “all-in pricing”. I know on most Ticketmaster event pages, you can now see the “price with fees” but I think the general public would psychologically be okay with a $55 ticket versus a $30 ticket+$25 fees and not know where the split lies.

NY state passed a law requiring this. Here’s an example:

Also we need to know prices beforehand and perhaps estimated fluctuation with dynamic. The problem with this set up is people are in a panic and often over pay in the beginning.

I hate not knowing pricing until tickets go on sale

  13. that's cool but I would like them to take it a step further and detail what the fees all encompass. if the promoters, venues, etc are getting cuts then show that, and then the public wouldn't think that Ticketmaster takes 100% of em.

I imagine Ticketmaster would love that but it would ruin acts image when you buy a ticket and it's like: Ticket Cost, Performer Fee, Promoter Fee, Building Fee, Tech Fee.

I just assume it's going to be very bad... And usually it's worse than that

To be fair, if you strictly go to shows at the 2k and below club/theater level, most shows are $50-60. It's the large theaters and arenas that are really hard to predict, price-wise, these days

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

I only go into a presale just so I can see what the prices are

Seeing headliner arena shows having ticket prices approaching that of a 4 day pass to Lolla or Bonnaroo is what has shocked me.

yeah fests are actually pretty cheap these days if you add up all the shows you see there

To buy a lower level arena ticket to see Foo Fighters, Paramore, Kendrick Lamar, and Odesza you’d be looking at roughly $500…I paid $340 for Bonnaroo and that includes 80 more bands and the ability to be closer to those acts than I would be in an arena.

The issue with the 400-500 tickets to me, at least, is that sure let those go for those amounts but then the upper deck levels shouldn't be $150 +.

I paid $250 per ticket for Blink in Brooklyn, which I think is the same cost as seeing them at the Adjacent Festival in Jersey with 50 other bands.

Interesting how festival inflation isnt rising to the levels arena shows have. Seems more economical to just limit going to local shows and invest in a 4-day weekend fest.

I just this morning finally bought my paramore tickets for this summer and ended up paying 275 per ticket for a lower level. It’s nuts.

Wow, even more than I thought. Glad I’m catching them at a festival then.

Linkin Park posted giving hints about a 20th anniversary for Meteora. Most likely is just a 20th anniversary edition of the album, but it got me thinking... if they ever tour again who would be a good replacement for Chester?
