2021 we went to see Thursday/TBS when they did those shows together. Announced to be the outside portion of this venue which holds a little under 5k people.

Morning of the show they announced they’re moving it inside (2200 cap) due to “bad weather”

Weather wasn’t great, just raining, but it was obvious they did it due to low ticket sales. Otherwise what are you gonna do? Tell 2800 people sorry you’re SOL? Lol

2021 had a solid headliner (at the time) in ATL who were guaranteed to draw 5k+ with that lineup

Last year they did what? State champs/Waterparks? They shouldn’t have been surprised by the hilariously low turnout

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

I think Sad Summer is heading in the right direction with the addition of older bands, but this year it just wasn’t executed correctly. Not only do they need stronger headliners, but eventually they should branch out and get older pop punk bands (think NFG-type). Otherwise, recycling the same handful of bands, no matter how popular they are, won’t be too exciting

This is hilarious. Some people were expecting it to be MCR/ FOB/Hawthorne Heights and can’t cope with being wrong

Columbus! Part of the problem i imagine was also having a show in Columbus and Cinci. One or the other and you prob get people to drive down to cinci or up to Columbus you know?

I agree completely. They did the same thing for the Newport/Cincinnati date.

The way they handled that was so wild. Got there right before Thursday and walked right to the rail. Lol.

SSF moving to Leader instead of the Palladium is a huge bummer for someone coming from out of state. Worcester is so easy, and Leader is a huge pain in the ass. I think it's the least convenient venue in Boston by a fair amount.

I feel like getting to any venue in the city from out-of-state would be annoying. At least with Leader Bank, it's like, an easy 15-20 minute walk to a commuter rail station.

To me, the bigger issue is the venue itself. It's fully seated and there's just not a lot of space to mill about between sets, food options are relatively limited, etc. It's not a great setting for a festival. Back in the day they used to remove the seats for things like this (which would make it way better) but that's obviously not something they can do at this point.

There's actually a new outdoor venue opening up just outside the city where an old race track used to be. I think it's going to be 5-7k if I remember correctly. Would be kinda perfect for this. But I kinda feel like they won't be ready to announce anything for that until the spring when the opening date is more set in stone. (Supposedly opening this year, though.)

It's probably more so that I'm not terribly familiar with the area and have had slow experiences getting to the venue in the past. Other Boston venues are usually pretty easy for me because I've gotten used to the T - I never drive in, and the venues are more or less conveniently near a stop. But it is undoubtedly more annoying than anything in Worcester, simply because the Palladium is so damn easy.

But yeah, the venue itself is also not at all conducive to a festival atmosphere. I went to SSF in 2019 and 2021, and while I had fun at both, 2021 definitely felt overcrowded and oversold. 2019 was great - you could mosey your way into the pit to see bands up close, and then hang back with plenty of free space to roam and even just sit on the pavement without getting in anyone's way. 2021 felt like shoulder to shoulder all the way back to the tents. I guess having a seated set up solves that issue, but, again, completely eliminates the summer festival vibe.

Yeah, parking outside of the city and coming in via T is a smart move. Saves on parking and all that. I just always find the green line to be incredibly obnoxious which is where most of the other ones are off of. Hah.

The disappointing thing is that, in theory, it should be a great set-up for a show like this! It's right on the water so there's usually a good breeze to counter the heat, the viewing areas are mostly shaded, etc. But the other factors (all seated, limited walking space beyond the setting) will kinda kill the vibe.

Yep. The physical location is great, it's the amenities holding it back. It actually got me thinking - if this were a larger tour, it would've been perfect for a venue here in Maine - Thompson's Point in Portland. It's the right size for a show like this, it's all outdoors, it's right on the water, there's plenty of vendor space, a permanent structure with beer and whatnot. It's one of the coolest places I've ever seen a show, objectively. Not just because I'm from Maine.

Not to mention, Portland is a great market for this kind of thing. TBS has sold very well here in the past. We don't get a lot of shows in this genre, and there's a demand. The Wonder Years upcoming show in Portland sold out in 3-ish days and caused the venue to open up an upper balcony that they rarely use.

I'll take a peak next week during the pre-sales and see what prices look like and what's available seat-wise, but I'm not married to going now. If MCS had been the special guest, that'd have been a much stronger pull for me.

it shows how on here we are all almost too smart about touring for our own good. Like literally Twitter and Fb were going crazy over this FOB/MCR/HH tour and no one here really mentioned it being possible at all because A: HH wouldn’t be allowed to tease it at all and B: if a tour that big existed Hawthorne most likely wouldn’t be allowed to open it because they wouldn’t benefit in the music industry from opening it and the opener would be a battle within the music industry of who would benefit from opening that tour.

Literally the other day I was in that thread trying to tell people “if it was something as big as a MCR/FOB co-headliner and HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS spoiled it by tweeting something like this, there would be bad blood and they’d be removed from the tour” and people were up my ass saying that I was being ridiculous
