I actually like both X-Kid and Stray Heart. I just think they were poor choices for them being the 1st singles released for those albums.

 

The real poor choice here was releasing three albums over the course of three months, haha.

 

Yeah absolutely. I feel like they easily could have put out an album of 12 songs from those three albums and it would have been well received but yeah 3 albums in 3 months, which 90% of those songs were pure filler was a truly bad idea. I give them credit for trying something different but it was a major flop.

 

"Stray Heart" and "X Kid" were easily the best single choices from those two albums. There was no way any single from either record would do well though. The narrative of the trilogy had already been established.

 

Still Breathing is out there!

 

As for me best track from Uno! Dos! Tres! albums is the "Amy" song.

 

I think my favorite song in the trilogy is either Stay the Night or Missing You but yeah Amy is a good song too.

If I had to make 1 album from the 3, this would probably be my list:

I don't listen to Green Day leaks so I'm not gonna listen to Still Breathing but that Rolling Stone article that goes track-by-track got me incredibly excited. So happy to hear there's another epic JOS-type song on this one (Forever Now)

EDIT: Never mind, Still Breathing was just officially released. I don't agree that this sounds typical at all, it sounds very contemporary/modern for them. I love it, the lyrics are fantastic and they experiment without fundamentally changing their sound.

I'm pretty bummed. I haven't really cared for any of the three songs released.

 

"Still Breathing" is great. Pretty confident that I'm going to love this album.

 

Fun fact for me that I can't say I`m a huge fan of Green Day. But some of their songs strongly touching my feelings. Looks like "Still Breathing" is one of these tracks.

 

Wholeheartedly agree with this. "X-Kid" was easily my favorite of the trilogy tracks, and really should have been a rock radio hit. "Stray Heart" too.

I re-listened to the whole thing from start to finish recently over the course of a day and... I found most of it to be "fine," but forgettable.

One track that really caught me off-guard was "Baby Eyes." That one's a jam too. Feels like a Misfits tribute track or something with the chorus.

I understand what people are saying about the production, but does that really matter? Of the three songs it's the one that's been stuck in my head since I first heard it... And it emotionally resonates.

As a fan that loves literally everything this band has done, even the trilogy, this new album doesn't do anything for me. Hopefully it'll grow on me, but after one listen, I know this album will sit towards the bottom of their catalogue for me.

A while ago, I decided to condense the trilogy into a single 16-track album. I know many of us have done this, so I wanted to share. I officially made it 20 tracks, sort of as a "deluxe edition," where the bonus tracks could be a mini-EP (similar to how the latest Descendents album is). I went through the trilogy and chose songs that fit the same vibe, with elements of power-pop, rockabilly, and of course, classic pop-punk. I've listened to it a few times, messed with the sequencing and tailored it as if it were an official album release.

A few notable exceptions ("Oh Love" really doesn't have a home here, IMO), but I liked the idea of them producing a lo-fi rock n' roll record that's somewhere between Nimrod and Warning, in terms of sound/influence. You open with a slow-building track that leads into the 1-2 punch of "LYG"/"SWTRLF," then it segues into the 'singles' ("Stray Heart" and "X-Kid" would be key choices). I like having "See You Tonight" as an interlude that ties into "Walk Away." Most of the songs I chose have common themes/sound. I would still rank this low in my overall discog for them, but it's a lot better than trudging through the excessive filler material. All together, it's roughly an hour long. It feels far more cohesive this way, and while I miss a few songs ("Sweet 16" could potentially be swapped out with "Fell For You," really), this is my personal definitive version.

Oh man, I can't wait for that.

 

I still haven't heard it since I don't listen to leaks but from everything I've read it actually sounds like it's more comparable to the title track from 21st Century than JoS, which is still an incredible song imo

 

Closest comparison is Dirty Rotten Bastards, I'd say.

Green Day will be on The Howard Stern Show this Wednesday. Really looking forward to this.

 

Howard is definitely gonna ask BJ about his rehab and stuff so I hope he's prepared for that

 

I don't know the whole story, so this is by no means accurate, but Green Day played Platypus live when Howard was on terrestrial radio (this part is a fact). It was unexpected and of course explicit in terms of language. The controversy now is whether or not bridges were burned at the time since Howard had to deal with FCC regulations back then. I wonder if it will be brought up.
