It just doesn’t have that “twist”, it’s left fairly ambiguous.

I remember renting The Happening from a local store when I was in high school, and then the DVD didn't work. Never watched it.

The first time I ever saw it, I was invited over to a friends house who, well to not mince words, is extremely attractive, and we had just made out the week before so it was kind of like a date to kind of see if it was gonna go anywhere. She rented The Happening, and neither of us knew anything about it other than it was an M. Night joint. Things never went further that night than a few make out sessions and ultimately fell apart and I'm at least 50% convinced it was because we had no goddamn clue what the hell we were watching and it just completely ruined the mood lol

As I've gotten older I've kind of accepted it for what it's "supposed to be" and it's entertaining in that light. But yeah if you went into it expecting a serious M Night movie, you're gonna have a weird time haha

The only new M Night films I’ve watched in the past couple decades are Glass, The Happening, and The Village. But, with how my tastes have evolved, I’m ready for this to be my entry back into his work.

I feel like people making a big deal out of The Happening being trash is a pretty good barometer for if their movie opinions are boring.

The biggest issue with M Night is how mental illness is usually portrayed in his movies.

I thought Glass was solid. More interesting than most in the super hero genre. Old was good too. M Night is one of those directors who I will usually make time for. Good or bad, it’s always at least interesting.

I still haven't seen Old lol. I'm a late-period Shyamalan defender and even I couldn't bring myself to care about that one. maybe one day

Glass is such a weird movie, it's like it half wants to be a deconstruction of the superhero genre and half "hey remember Unbreakable? you guys liked Unbreakable right?" I absolutely love it though, some of his best directing and wildest ideas, there's no other movie quite like it. easily my favourite of the late era though The Visit is good too

really good sign, considering that the early glass reactions were mostly down on that film
