my boyfriend and i went record shopping in his hometown before heading back home from winter break (we're both grad students). scored both recent 10 inch releases from Crosses (Initiation/Protection and Day One/Vivien) as well as For Those That Wish to Exist by Architects.

Their whole discography needs a repress. I know I only planned on buying the new record when it’s up for preorder, but I would drop more money for represses

Got this in the mail this week. A suuuuper obscure 80s pop band from Boston. Great album.

The first song was their single. Kinda gives me Carly Rae Jepsen vibes.

That was on repeat in my car stereo for almost the entirety of 06 hah. So damn good.

  15. I’ve always wanted to start a record label and focus on pressing albums that have never been pressed before. But obviously that’s a lottttt harder and more expensive than it’s probably worth. But it would be a lot of fun to pick albums and packaging and everything. There’s just so many I want!

I’ve also thought about doing it for cassettes only, which is a lot more feasible, but I wouldn’t know how to even go about legally doing any of that. Haha.

I thought about this too, but then i started researching and realized it's too expensive. lol

  17. See I'm in this position where the only records I'm dying to have that have never been pressed at all are Gillian Welch's first three albums. She and Dave Rawlings are going backwards through her catalog and doing the whole process start-to-finish of mastering her records for vinyl and getting them pressed themselves. I get that it takes a lot of time and I have faith they'll come out eventually. Plus Dave Rawlings is apparently involved in the in-house pressing plant VMP is building out in Colorado so maybe that will help speed the process up.

So then I've got a wantlist comprised almost entirely of records that technically could be bought but that I'm simply not willing to cough up the dough for (e.g. The Wrens' The Meadowlands, as mentioned a few days ago--top 5 record of all time for me but don't wanna pay $300+ for a used copy). Some of them, like Lucero - 1372 Overton Park, Steve Earle - I Feel Alright, or Built to Spill's live album, I'm afraid will just never get repressed because the demand isn't there. So for those maybe I talk myself into a splurge eventually.

With others--like Blonde (yes I missed the recent drop please shut up lol), Relationship of Command, Aim & Ignite, the first three Coheed records--I'm more confident that demand will dictate a repress at some point so I'm simply not gonna overpay for a used copy. And then there are the ones like War All the Time or The Meadowlands where it looks pretty hopeless despite decent demand simply because of the parties involved haha.

Also while we're on the topic: if anyone in here happens to have a copy of the only LP by Brave Bird (CYLS band that's been broken up for almost a decade at this point) I would gladly take it off your hands if it doesn't mean a ton to you lol. Zero copies available on Discogs for months now.

  19. Exactly. Vinyl is crazy expensive. Even lathe cuts. Cassettes are way more affordable, but I still don’t know how licensing works and all that other shit so I’ll probably just make my own personal bootlegs and leave it at that. Haha

Going to get a new table. Trying to decide between the Pro-ject Debut Carbon EVO and Fluance RT85. From my research it seems like it boils down to a better cartridge/platter (Fluance) vs. a vastly superior tone arm with easier stylus upgrading (Project).

Does anyone have experience with either of these?

  25. I’ve got the Debut Carbon, my sole complaint is having to remove the platter and manually transfer the belt from one wheel to the other to change rotation speed. Other than that it has treated me wonderfully, looks super clean, and yes makes it very easy to upgrade the stylus
