Youth, What You Don't See, The Greatest Generation, The Finer Things is my guess from that era of pop punk

it was him with a boom box, zero production, and stage presence was non existent. I was to the left of the soundboard and the talkers around me were louder than him.

single most disappointing festival set ive ever seen.

Pretty sure State Champs have already confirmed a 10 year TFT tour at their shows on the last headliner.

All hail niche fests that don't try to be everything to everyone, but rather attempt to super-serve a specific demographic.

Multi genre fests used to to be much better curated, but the pivot to TikTok/pop artists in the past 3yrs has been disappointing.

Looking at the multi genre fests in Europe compared to the US is crazy

The Tik-Tok/pop stuff just draws insanely well compared to rock/alt/indie these days so if you need to fill a field of 50-90k people, that probably does it best. The smaller curated festivals are a better experience for people in their late 20's/early 30's who those genres tend to serve.

Yep! It was inevitable the festival scene would be co-opted by the mainstream. Festivals began as counter culture events (the first Coachella was a direct response to Woodstock 99) and a desire to find an outlet for acts that were outside Top 40.

Now it seems like the festivals are less about a response to current culture or more just another vehicle for it. But yes, give me those niche fests all day (P4K, Riot, Movement, JLH, etc)

This is very well-put. The focus of the festival is important to consider too. Coachella and Lolla don't really care about anything beyond who is going to draw... Which is why so much of the conversation centers around the headliners. It's the bigger names and the experience. A lot like Bamboozle, really, in terms of experience and top tier headliners. That's the top three. Coachella, Lollapalooz, and Bamboozle. Bamboozle will actually have more headliners than Coachella this year, TBH. A whopping nine to 'chella's measly three.

The smaller festivals have to curate the line-up in order to get the value in the mix. The headliners are nice but without a deep undercard they're usually pretty fucked.

I know they probably have no control over it, and these shows have been booked for a while now, but still kind of weird to see Modest Mouse being announced given their drummer just died.
