I have the tabs open to keep track and compare, I am a stat nerd and have been waiting for this to come out as it is a rarity in box office terms to have a sequel to what is currently the highest-grossing film ever.

I don't even think the film itself is to blame for the drop as it has had solid reviews and most people seem to like it, I think the box office has changed so much over the last few years to the point where a long-lasting box office juggernaut is pretty much a thing of the past.

Top Gun: Maverick has entered the chat. But, to be fair, I don't think TG:M does the same numbers if Covid didn't delay it's release and screw up two year's worth of calendaring of tentpoles.

Definitely like this more after a second viewing. I need to see a Making Of special for this.

One film, unfortunately, does not help buck a trend of high openings and then no longer being in the top ten after a couple of months.

Instead of watching Paul thinking up “Get Back” in real time, we see Cameron furiously scribbling and whispering to himself “human baby….left behind…like a white Mowgli…he has dreadlocks…”

For anyone looking for an opinion on seeing this in 4DX: fucking do it. It got so wild at times that I almost fell out of my seat, but that added so much to the beauty my eyes were taking in. The 2 edibles surely helped, but my god - this is an EXPERIENCE.

Marvel and Star Wars are lame now so Avatar and Dune will be the big franchises of the 2020s

I doubt this movie will beat Spider-Man: No Way Home now for highest grossing film post-covid. It had a 50% worldwide drop this weekend, which is where most of the box office is coming from.

  22. I think the cultural impact argument holds. Not to keep overusing the analogy but this franchise really is like a theme park, you pay the price of admission for the experience and the thrills, you maybe jump on the ride again, then you don't think about it at all that often, and if you do, you're not really thinking about the characters or story but about the VFX and the 3D - which are pretty irrelevant until the time comes to ride the thing again.

this one left me thinking about the visuals, characters, and themes (first one mostly just visuals and themes and the amazing action sequence that takes up the last twenty minutes)
