I kind of expect this to be California (Tom's Version), where they just use it as a "recentering" for the band, for lack of a better term. Going back to a similar sound that blew them up originally, and possibly waiting to branch out until their next release.

(Yes, this is solely based on Edging and what few comments we've got on the sound of the album)

 

Them forcing an Enema style album wouldn't be what I'm looking for

 

Stating a fact. If hearing something this band worked on wasn’t finished makes you sad or angry you need some perspective.

 

Agreed. I do expect some experimentation though, but I think it will be a much more focused, straightforward album. Maybe a blend of California and Dogs Eating Dogs and less of Neighborhoods. I'm down for that for sure.

 

There’s no reason to believe they’re forcing anything and haven’t written exactly the kind of music they want to be making right now

 

I don’t think Edging sounds particularly beholden to any of the band’s previous albums so I’m happy to leave expectations open for solid pop rock songs, hopefully a few of which are more up tempo and punk-ish

Continuation of Dogs Eating Dogs would be all I could ever ask for!

 

For sure if it:

1) Had better production
2) Dropped the minute long intros and delay guitars
3) Dropped the bad rap features
4) Didn’t lift melody lines from All Star
5) Didn’t sound like Angels and Airwaves/+44 b sides

Other than those few points, sign me up!

I messaged Aaron and asked him, based on the amount of output during the time Skiba was in the band, if it was dumb to assume there was any good reason other than Mark's cancer diagnosis for the last material to not be released. He replied there was absolutely no good reason to assume otherwise
