I came to complain about the terrible ref and give my sympathies to the Dutch for that shit show but how can you even care about the soccer after reading that news. Fuck this World Cup. That’s some terrifying and devastating news.

Not to be morbid or inconsiderate but the USA needs to be the ones performing the autopsy

 

I think we should probably wait until we have more information before we start assuming what happened. His brother said Grant was healthy and yet it seems Grant told us he was ill and not feeling well.

 

No one should be locking anyone up yet, but it’s definitely something that needs to be investigated by outside authorities and everyone now needs to use an abundance of caution until foul play can be ruled out (if it even can be)

 

He was told he had bronchitis and from all accounts it just seemed like a normal sickness

but this is why the US needs to perform the autopsy

 

I agree with all of that. Obviously needs to be investigated. And while it’s understandable how people reach the conclusion of foul play, there are certainly details that make me think it wasn’t.

 

I’m honestly really down about his passing. I never met the guy or had any interaction with him. His podcasts from Qatar have been appointment listening for me. In addition to everything he’s done in his career.

 

RIP. Really feel for his family, particularly due to what time of year it is. Every Christmas for them from now on will be tarnished and sorrowful. Obviously, I'm presuming they celebrate the holiday.

 

Yeah, I think until we know more, we should also refrain from assuming he was killed by the Qatari state or whatever. He was seemingly ill, there are reportedly witnesses saying he had a heart attack, and Qatar haven’t been killing or harming anyone else wearing rainbows, so this would be a huge, incredibly dumb, escalation.

That said, the US need to be demanding that body is returned to them ASAP and flying people to do the autopsy just in case.

Regardless, it is a tragedy. I wasn’t familiar with him or his work, but I hope that his family find answers, and peace soon. RIP.

 

To bring this back to the football, I think Martinez should be banned for the semi final for this.

 

I think martinez is so incredibly unlikeable.

 

I thought both teams were out of line throughout the game. And this particular ref just made everything worse. But what surprised me the most was Messi’s anger after the game was over. He went over to the Netherlands bench and had some words for their coaches. Then apparently called someone an idiot during his presser. I don’t recall Messi ever being so angry after a game.

 

Hilarious that Ronaldo is benched again. Must bruise his ego so much for both his (ex) club and now country to realise they're better off without him. Especially after being rejected by every major club in Europe all summer.

 

Fuck. I turned on the pre game show while I made some breakfast and it was rob stone opening talking about Grant Wahl and rob could barley make it through. Gut wrenching.

 

LvG basically said Messi doesn’t do enough to help his teammates.

 

There’s a brief but very touching tribute by Nicky Bandini at the start of todays Football Ramble presents On The Continent. Speaks about how Grant helped her on a personal level and was instrumental in fighting for the game to be inclusive.

Also says she has heard accounts of people seeing paramedics attending to him during the game.

 

I am the epitome of an American bandwagon soccer fan who only watches the World Cup every four years but yesterday was incredible to witness and i’m excited for todays matches.

Also I feel the Fox team who do preshow and half time are really good, they don’t beat around the bush and just really seem to speak how they feel.
