I am just trying to follow along with the meaning of abuse of power from others on this board....because by the standards ive read and why others have been criticized this fits right in..... what if the fan is only saying yes because they feel the power dynamic is unbalanced and so they feel pressured to say yes or how about if the fan is underage ? Are they checking IDs of these fans before they get on stage? I bet not

 

the fans are standing front row with their phone screens literally saying “MAKE OUT WITH ME”, they’re the ones asking

 

watch the videos, nobody looks remotely underage and they are all having a great time.

 

I was pretty underwhelmed by the singles for this and thought this might be my jumping off point with the band, but I find myself listening to the album constantly. I went from being like "oh, ok, I do like this and I'm not done with them" to "well, this is one of my favorite records of the year" without even really recognizing it was happening.

Still bummed that I couldn't make it out to this tour. That set up and the creative intro is so incredibly cool.

Think this might be the only band where I love the music but truly get turned off by one of its members.

Matty is just unbearable. I really loved his statement a couple yrs ago about refusing to play fests without proper 50/50 gender representation. Yet the statement looks like bullshit as they have never delivered on it, continuing to take festival paychecks on male dominated lineups.

 

In terms of right and wrong I don't even think this is wrong, however I do feel like it is equal to what many other artists have been called out for....you can call it a "gotcha" I call it hypocrisy

 

And then seeing all the fans excuses "well, they asked for it" "they are ok with it"

Like are you kidding...these are the types of comments that got members banned when it was mentioned in reference to other claims of abuse

 

Point me to an instance of two consenting adults kissing and a. Someone calling it abuse and b. Someone getting banned for saying it’s not abuse. I’ll be here waiting there’s a 6 year posting history on this website so it shouldn’t take you long if you’re not full of shit!

 

I mean surely a big difference is that no reasonable person would sincerely interpret this as Matty showing a genuine interest in dating them. The power dynamics at play in a one and done kiss on stage are not equivalent to cultivating a relationship misusing those dynamics over months/years.

 

To clarify you don't know they are adults, could be a 15 year old brought on stage for all we know...so as long as you are ok with that I have nothing else to add

 

I also still fail to see how anything matty has done warrants the vitriol he frequently gets on this website and quite to the contrary his story of overcoming addiction and being open and honest about it in his songwriting is one of the only reasons I’m alive today so

 

he didn’t bring a 15 year old on stage, this has been verified, so you’re literally making up shit to get mad about and then getting mad that other people aren’t also mad about your made up scenario. I would reevaluate what you’re doing here because it’s obnoxious.

 

Ok last post here by me because honestly I don't care that much about this band and what he is doing is fine with me...all I am saying is that what he did can easily be seen as abuse and the reactions to his behaviors from others have resulted in people being up in arms from other bands doing that can be viewed as similar

 

Who picks the person to go on stage and what is the criteria for selection?
