This was such a gift. I didn’t cry but I was smiling and misty eyed throughout a good chunk of it.

Can’t stop thinking about it. Might be the best of the year. Def Steve’s best in over a decade

this better bode well for when it goes wide, esp. against a disney movie that has seemingly no buzz

I think it will have great word of mouth and leg it out all thru Oscar season. Helps that there isn’t much competition in terms of “serious adult films” in wide release - I can imagine walk ups from adults not knowing what else to see since they have no interest in the latest Disney and giving this a shot. It’s a crowd pleaser in a way that many other low stakes personal dramas that get nominated for best picture are not

excellent flick, extremely moving and had some great comedy spliced in as well.

Was really looking forward to seeing this this weekend, but, unfortunately, I guess it's too indie for AMC Theaters. None of the 4 AMCs around me are getting it. Kind of a strange move to show episodes of The Chosen instead.

I'm surprised how limited this is.

It will probably go wider but I hate how confusing it all is

Yeah, it's a super weird business move. It already had the limited rollout and is now marketed as being "everywhere" on November 23. I'm just not entirely sure I understand why theaters would want to miss the opening holiday weekend revenue for a crowd pleaser from one of the biggest crowd pleasing directors in cinematic history. Haha.

It’s playing at the Cinemark a half hour away from me, but not the one about 5 mins away.

What that theater does have is Wakanda Forever, Strange World, Devotion, The Chosen, Black Adam, The Menu, Bones & All, Ticket to Paradise, She Said, Lyle Lyle Crocodile, & Spirited.

It’s more of a “you might be smiling so much you have tears in your eyes” type deal, less of a full on obvious tear jerker

    I didn’t really love this? It’s fine.

definitely thought it would be a “movies are magic” kind of movie and not a “divorce, family drama” movie

A.I of course is top 3 Spielberg, and is of a piece with this, and E.T. in a way.

I also am fascinated how this movie came out of the early days of the pandemic, with Steven taking long drives just to get out of the house and clear his head, wondering, "If I was only able to make one more movie because of all this chaos, what would that movie be?"

You could double feature this with The Matrix Resurrections tbh - both films born out of filmmakers processing their parents' deaths during the pandemic and finding their own unique ways to resurrect the people they have lost
