i mentioned it above, but astro city: confessions is an absolute must buy for anyone IMO. It's a hard comic to talk about because its best experienced with zero knowledge going in. It is however one of the most ground breaking super hero comics ever published. I can go into it more if people don't care about "spoilers" but seriously everyone should read it. It was out of print for a very long time but DC recently re-released it in a hard cover. I would even go as far as saying I will paypal anyone the 20$ they spent on it if they dont enjoy it .

I Kill Giants is another one I would recommend. Its a little more on the lighter side but by the end of the series it will punch you in the gut. One of the few comics that made me break down completely.

also as mentioned above asterios polyp is great one as well.

Also not technically an OGN but a collection is All Star Superman. Morrison's idea of Superman is what I think Superman should be.

I hold All Star Superman to such a high standard now that its basically ruined all other versions of superman by comparison. Easily the definitive superman story .

Pride of Baghdad, Blankets, Seconds, and Persepolis are all great standalones.

so the Gerard way Doom Patrol rumour was (thankfully) not a april fools prank. Consider me back on the hype train. Doom Patrol are probably my favourite super hero team and Gerard Way's writing would be absolutely perfect for it.

@Colby Searcy Alright, got my review of Batman Vol. 8 posted. You can check it out here. Any feedback would be great. This is the first one I've posted on my site so still a work in progress with writing about comics.

I second that I Kill Giants rec. it was given to me as a gift and I read it in one sitting. It's really heavy stuff.

@Deanna Good review! I enjoyed your writing style. You write WAY more eloquently than I do!

Thanks! I often feel like I ramble a bit too much hah. I try to keep that to a minimum especially when I do really enjoy something. The trade was pretty good, but I'm sure the previous trades have a lot more to offer in the way of the story line.

Oh jeeze, I can't be disappointed because I just finished it last week, haha, but I'm definitely surprised! I'm really glad I didn't say anything spoilery. At least you can go in knowing that I found it perfect, ha. And yeah, Alpha & Omega is the last book. I think it's book 6 though.

I haven't yet, think I might later today though.

    (Spoiler tags = trigger warning.)

Favorite DC character, and one of my favorite characters as a whole, is the Barbara Gordon Batgirl. I love that her origin is her wanting to be an officer, being told by her dad she can't, her becoming Batgirl instead, Batman and Robin telling her to stop, and her continuing to be awesome. She's all about taking her life into her own hands to be a hero.

Then, in civilian clothes, to further her dad's plot, she was shot in the spine and sexually assaulted, with no plans to use again at the time. The editor giving Alan Moore permission said, "Cripple the bitch." (Thank goodness the 80s Suicide Squad saved the character by making her Oracle.)

That's such garbage, and it was used to sell an overrated tale about Batman and Joker's conflict, which has been done better elsewhere.

That was really well said. When I first read the comic about five years ago (when I didn't really know anything about the universe outside of what I had seen in movies) something didn't quite sit well with me, but I couldn't figure out why.

The Batman/Joker/Gordon moment in Hush is perfect. Haven't read it in so many years and still remember Batman looking at his bloody hands.

Ignore the Killing Joke garbage and read Hush instead, lol.

Has anyone here read Seconds? Seems like it would be right up my alley since I enjoyed Scott Pilgrim. I was thinking about jumping into that or starting the Miles Ultimate Spider-Man trades after I finish Ms Marvel.
