God of War 2 is still a 10. One of my all time favourite gaming experiences.

 

And all it did was iterate on the first one, which is what ragnorok is doing to 2018

 

The original god of war games are not great

 

Just because I find it “samey” doesn’t mean I don’t think it’s good. It’s still one of the better games I played this year and will undoubtedly snag a lot of GOTY wins from different outlets.

Was just hoping for more, personally.

god of war 3 was a total fail imo

 

I never finished 3. I remember it always freezing at a certain boss bc of my disk. Just never got back to it

 

God of War 3 is still one of my favourite games, not quite as perfect as the first two but still some of the funnest shit I've ever done in games. That intro fighting all over the titans back was so sick.

 

i like that that huge temple in gow1 was chained on that titans back as he crawled through the desert

 

I've only ever played the first God Of War.

 

I don’t agree at all, they’re a blast. The ps2 era camera can be a hassle sometimes but everything else about it rips.

 

GoW 2018 was a reboot???

 

i kinda miss fixed camera games….

 

I remember those games looking so good at the time and just going through all those fantastical locations and ripping apart all manner of creatures and demons was so fun. The way the blades worked never got boring for me, one of the few games I would replay on the hardest difficulty. I got very invested in the story too haha.

Nah, it was a sequel but it changed up so much about the series that it was kinda like a soft reboot.

The problem with God of War Ragnarök in my opinion is the pacing in addition to the samey-ness.

The backlash to that game is already starting, no one is hating it or saying it's bad, but at lot of people are saying it's not as good as the reviews make it look. Also I just found, at least judging by the first few hours, 2018 far more interesting.
I'll give it one more honest shot tonight if I can tear myself away from TikTok but I really can't find it in me to play that game, whereas I finished 2018 multiple times.

Also, I know, broken record, I just don't think it's a particularly good-looking game.

 

Thanks for the responses. From the few trailers I watched, the environments and combat looked very much the same. Often sequels will at least change the scenery (IE - if the first game was very open, the 2nd may introduce more close quarters combat or vice versa. Or if you were in a desert, maybe you'll get some snow in the 2nd game). I am hoping for those sorts of changes to keep it fresh vs a complete retooling of combat and style. The 2018 version played fantastically, but it was also a long game, so another 30-40 hours of that, wouldn't be a 10/10 for me.

Either way, super excited to play it and form my own opinion.
