What are those who have played it, spoiler free thoughts on GOWR? It's getting rave reviews. My only concern is that it will be more of the same and not innovate/change enough. I haven't read any deep dive reviews as I want to experience it as fresh as possible.

It’s very good but it was very “more of the same” for me.

 

i said the word misinterpret. so its not really a pure reflection on bioshock. im just lame enough to remember the horrid internet discourse back when that game came out.

I am enjoying God of War but it is essentially a modern blockbuster in videogame form. I find it genuinely interesting that it got the review scores that it did.

 

It’s great! Imo they definitely shake things up but yeah could’ve been a bit more experimentation here or there. I’m loving the tweaks to combat and the side quests.

 

Idk why people would expect any drastic change for a direct sequel. I love this GoW sequel because I loved the first and the story being told is incredible.


Direct sequels don’t have major changes, look at Horizon. FF7R sequel most likely won’t have significant changes.

 

maybe in the minority but I personally love that it's more of 2018 and they didn't make too many changes and just iterated on what they had. it's not like this is the same as the original trilogy and there was only one game before this one.

 

I’m with you Rugy and if we are in the minority the expectations from gamers are pretty ridiculous.

The game is exactly what I expected and it’s polished as fuck.

 

Yeah I wouldn't expect any crazy changes. I do think so far they reuse the same bland enemies way too much though. Even the PS2 games had new unique enemies as you progressed to different areas.

 

ragnarok looks like it has some much needed diversity of enemies and environments when you compare it with 2018

 

They added a lot of new enemies which was 100000% needed over 2018

 

I’m replaying the original god of war 1 and 2 on my ps3, and it’s the same deal as those games. The second one is just the first one with way more shit and all the mechanics tightened up with some new flare added here and there. The 2nd one if I remember got as good as if not better scores than the original. No surprise the same thing is happening again.

 

It's obviously been four years since I've played that but it feels more noticeable to me in this one. Maybe because it feels like most of these enemies were in that game too although I genuinely can't remember lol.

 

man i still preferred god of war 1 and 2 to 2018. those games were fun and epic and goofy.
