the new sonic looks like a very early alpha build of a next gen sonic game. that open world just looks so haphazardly done, theres ways to make the obstacles blend with the environment and seem natural, other sonic games have done it, other platformers do it, it looks so weird in this game though.

 

The Doom one is still the best one imo, the CD Projekt Red and Black Mesa ones are great too

I can't really speak as I haven't played the game, but someone in this thread posted a review round-up and they all seemed fairly positive, and user reviews on Steam have the game at a Very Positive percentage right now.

I guess what I'm saying is that I feel finding a negative review in that ocean only goes to show that everyone has their own take, and it's up to you if you want to let that compass be your guide.

That Sonic game might be fine but the interesting question to me is would anyone give a fuck if it weren’t Sonic and would it review better or worse if it weren’t?

 

It’d review better. Sonic games on average score 5-10 points lower

 

I feel like it can go either way. I think in the case of many Sonic games, you are right, but in this case my gut tells me people would be less likely to play and/or like this if it were a generic new IP instead of Sonic.

as far as like... I was a SEGA kid. I grew up with a Mega Drive. I have so little interest in Sonic these days it's actually incredible. It took them making it almost look like Breath of the Wild for it to even register to me, and I still can't get myself to pull the trigger. I am sure many feel the same way.

The Sonic franchise these days is purely held up by the Mario & Sonic Olympic Games.

And, admittedly, the movie.
