Album Review: Yellowcard - Yellowcard - Soundfiction

 

"When it comes to what the album actually sounds like, there’s an extremely varied approach culminating in a record that harkens back throughout Yellowcard’s discography wholly, pulling bits and pieces from each release. This further helps the record and their career give a feeling of coming full circle whilst never truly leaving their beginning roots in the dust like many bands have done lately. The album opener “Rest In Peace” features the violins the band is known for, “What Appears” lives on a bouncy riff and poppy structure while “Got Yours” shows off the edgier, punk driven style that they made a name off of when they first started. Between the more upbeat approach lies slow-paced tracks like the piano led “Leave a Light On” and the 7-minute album closer “Fields & Fences”, which sees the simple plucking of chords and strings slowly crescendo into a more traditional sound for the band as it closes off to the sound of violins, making for a beautiful end to both the band and album."

 

Not a bad review. Really excited that they are pulling sounds from previous records. Im gonna cry during that violin outro on fields and fences. What a perfect send off that will be.

Just finished OFTK and started Ocean Avenue. As soon as Way Away begins you can hear the huge growth between albums. It almost seems like two different bands. Pretty fucking amazing

 

The stuff released between the two gave a good signal of what was coming ("Hey Mike", "Finish Line")

 

Yeah, don't sleep on The Underdog EP. It was a big leap forward in their songwriting and an excellent harbinger of (the good) things to come.

 

That's a good point. I used to have The Underdog EP in my iTunes. I wonder what happened to that.

Listening to Gifts and Curses now. What a jam

 

Does absolutely anyone care about this band anymore? I haven't heard a single bit of buzz about this album and its release date is 3 days away.

 

Most of this thread probably do, for starters. Bands been burned a lot by leaks in the past, appear to be keeping this one locked down as much as possible.

 

Ummm, yeah, I mean, there's been a lot of talk in this thread. People are extremely excited about this album.

I didn't mean for that to come off so complainy. I just thought it was so interesting that almost no one i know in music circles is talking about the final tour or the upcoming album release on twitter or facebook. Still the fact this has as many replies as it does (12 pages x 45 posts a page) is indication that a good amount of people on this site at least are still excited about the record. I hope I can make it out to the last tour. Still a lot of good memories associated with this band, even if it's not something I end up turning to a lot these days.

Just worried this will turn out like Lowborn where people for the most part just ignored the album release in the general public.

Idk, I don't think they need to hype it up a lot or promote it a lot so it probably seems like not many people are talking about it. They're not trying to gain any new fans, this one is for the band and for their fans.

 

Lowburn was really not that good of an album though, esp for Anberlin standards.

 

Lowborn is a really good record. Different sure, and pulled in many different directions as is to be expected considering how it was recorded, but it certainly doesn't crap on their legacy. Just as I'm expecting this Yellowcard record won't crap on their legacy, and I hope it gets more attention from the bands fans of all eras than Lowborn did for Anberlin's long time fans.

 

Lowbown is the second worst Anberlin album and a total product of how they recorded it. It's not awful, but it's not great, especially considering it came after arguably their best album.

"Atonement" is still an awesome awesome song, though.

 

Only one of my friends knows about this release and how it's their final album. That's not really anything new though. The majority of my friends stopped following bands after high school and the rest some time in college

 

I will admit that I feel the buzz about this album is very low. But to a certain extent I think they want it that way. This album is designed for their fans.

 

I don't think it craps on Anberlin's Legacy, I just think a lot of people are like me where they just ignore it completely.

I think the new Yellowcard will be get more attention though. No reasons why, I just think they are bigger and have more passionate fans.

 

Nah, Lowborn is great, and I think it would have been received even better if they hadn't told us how they recorded it. That created a disconnect between me and the album for a little while. But I got over it and really like it now.

Excited for Yellowcard, but my excitement is probably the lowest it has ever been for a Yellowcard album, just because I know I won't be able to see them on the tour, so it all ends with the album for me.

 

I remember hearing We Are Destroyer live and it sounded so good and had more energy than the electronic album version. You think that's due to them recording it the way they did?
