I love Popcast when it’s the main crew because of how much they challenge each other (less so when it’s a random assortment of critics that put on the kid gloves for Drake.) Thought this was really interesting and kind of agree that Jack is not really helping with her lyricism like some of Taylor’s past collaborators.

Hits Different reminds me of The Very First Night (maybe my fav Taylor song) a little bit at times

the font on some of the new lyric merch is pretty interesting

Caramanica has such bizarre taste that I sometimes struggle to relate to his opinions (I will never get over him putting that awful Sam Hunt album at the top of his 2020 albums list) but yes, that they all push each other and challenge each other is great. It’s definitely the best podcast I’ve listened to about this album yet, and I thought the conversation about the economy of her past songwriting versus the wordy sprawl of her newer stuff was really interesting. I love both of those sides of her, but would love to hear her write in that really succinct, intentional way that she did with (specifically) Liz Rose.

I know you're more of a Sam Hunt sympathizer than I am, but he is such a smarmy asshole (proven irrefutably since!) and it absolutely comes across in his songs.

I like the pop version of Taylor as much as I like the folklore version, but this is what I mean about the lyrics. She absolutely leveled up on those two.

Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not. I love 1989 and folkmore. Wasn’t a huge fan of Rep outside of the music and Delicate. Lover was a bit of a miss. Rediscovered Red and really enjoyed a lot of it. And have been enjoying some songs from this album.

Overall I just feel like she’s trying so hard to be so many different things. Relatable. Super cool and an icon. The under dog. The villain and badass. The good and sweet person. It feels like she’s like. Creating her own lore and Taylor Cinematic Universe. Like she’s become sooo big. Bigger than life that it’s become a bit exhausting. Directing her own music videos that are all self referential and all Easter eggs about herself.

Maybe I’m just not used to pop stars and how all of that goes. Just seems like you can’t have it all ways? Idk if this is making any sense.

She’s obviously incredibly talented and a capitalist queen and a damn good business woman, but I’m hitting some fatigue with it all.

I think she does sometimes get overexposed with how massive she is but I think she's more mindful than she used to be about it, like back in the day I felt like she'd be on every single talk show under the sun and she'd do daily paparazzi walks and usually in the middle of an era I'd get fatigued on her pretty quick but I think she's a little more guarded and a little less everywhere now. I do think she goes for mass appeal but I also think she taps into different sides of her personality or different fantasies and personas. I like it because there's something for every mood I'm in, but I can also appreciate how that might be a bit much

I'd def say she's more calculated about it than other popstars and as a side note I appreciate she's kinda leaning into the calculation aspect of her personality this era, as a fellow type A. Own it sis! Not that anyone here is doing it, but she's had that label used against her and it can be argued I guess whether people like that trait or not, but it's undeniably gotten her where she is and is part of what makes her astronomically more successful than her peers, while admittedly always alienating some people

not gonna get into the discourse here as it's not my place to talk about it given my body type, but apparently Apple Music has now uploaded a new version of the Anti-Hero video without the weight dial being shown when she steps on the scale. Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift

You're not the first person I've heard say that. It's wild how siloed off from the rest of pop music mainstream country is. He has literally the biggest blockbuster album released in the past 24 months (well, with the possible exception of this one) and if you don't pay attention to that world, it's possible to have never even heard of him.

Oh shit. Just came across a Tik Tok from a music “critic” we don’t name on this site defending Jack Antonoff. Said the bullying needs to stop when it comes to his production.

These streaming numbers don’t make sense. “Anti-Hero” is going to have 100 million streams in like two weeks. That’s like… “drivers license” level. It’s unfathomable.
