John's obsessed with fat ass and he's ten years old

the fearlessness he approaches this album with inspires me as it should any artist who hears it

    baffling

maybe give it more listens? I promise you it's better than you might think but then again someone might say that about a song I'm not as into and be completely right

I just feel it might be a grower, for some at least. as for me, it was very immediate

It’s good. I just think the sound they hit on Wintering and When We Are Together is more novel/they hit it in a better way. I’ve heard their About You/Human Too before

It seems like their defining moment, the way Love It If We Made It was

It’s also a perfect lead in to oh Caroline, the best one two punch possibly in their whole discography outside of this must be my dream and Paris

I’m sure someone has already mentioned how the piano riff in the intro bears a resemblance to All My Friends but I wanted to say I love how it has that same frantic quality of playing that I can’t always tell if it’s supposed to be in time or not

I don’t even know where to begin with this; a riveting opener to set the stage, massive hits up with the top in their catalog, vulnerable and heartbreaking lyrics, brilliant production with stunning brass and gorgeous strings sprinkled throughout before being wrapped up with a wistful bookend bringing the record full circle - all in all, they create a clear, concise record with no shortage of earworms and sound bites making their way into the tracks that make this album feel full of life.

I don’t even know where to start with favorites; there are just so many highlights on here that show how they can really nail anything they set out to do. On first listen, the standouts for me were Happiness, About You, and When We Are Together.

I hear the Antonoff influence - maybe most evident to me on Wintering - and I think he was an excellent choice for this project. He seems to really get the band and bring out the best in them, and I’d love to see that relationship continue.

If I’m being honest, About You makes me thinking of my grandmother who sadly passed away a few months ago. Obviously, I don’t relate to every single line of the song, but the overall sentiment, the mood, the atmosphere…I’m just transported to another plane and the only person I can really think about is her.

    I miss her.

it’s one of their songs that just has an indescribably nostalgic and emotional feeling to it that must hit a certain part of the brain, and I found myself really connecting with it as well.

sorry for your loss - sending you love ❤️

About You reminds me a lot of Paris. Especially the bass. But also how atmospheric and dreamy it is but the slow groove takes me to the same head space Paris does

Actually it’s got hints of a change of heart too now that I think about it

100% and it just sits in the same zone for the entirety of the song. Really helps you get lost in the whole thing. It’s dreamlike

Same. Not only is it one of my favorite songs by them, but the delivery of that whole “vaccinista tote bag chic barista…whilst staining the pages of the nation” verse is just so good that it might be one of my favorite 1975 moments!

I somewhat recently finished Joe Pera Talks With You and my girlfriend and I were both so happy to see Mark Borchardt show up.

It’s very cool to see a band that started out with a clear “vision” continue to push and pull against themselves. This feels fresh and new and impressive and refined all at once. I don’t know if their highest highs (that’d be Paris, Love It If We Made It and It’s Not Living) are on this, but they come close and there are very few, if any, missteps.

This definitely seems like the pared down, focused album they needed after the last two. I was shocked it was only 45 minutes long. Definitely one of their best.
