    I really like this

  2. For some reason someone on their subreddit leaked the record in intentionally muddy quality so I took a listen of some snippets here and there. Sounds like they're leaning in harder on the Animals, Impermanence, and Little Wonder kind of stuff with the mix of industrial and poppy influences.

As a person who loves two of those three songs, I’m into it!

i have to take back every single bad thing i've said about their new direction. all the singles have grown on me immensely and i'm certain this album will be fantastic.

Best single so far but I am still skeptical. So far this album has sounded like diet BMTH

  15. Eh it's more of the same but much weaker mainly because 1. the surprise factor from the initial stylistic shift is gone and 2. it sounds really safe and gives me "FTTWTE bside" vibes a lot... which is pretty much what I was expecting. "living is killing us" has some really interesting things going on in the background and is my favorite out of the unreleased songs. "doomscrolling" is a jam even though the claps made me groan in their radio rockiness. "be very afraid" should be a crowd pleaser with its heaviness. I'm thankful there's nothing as bad as the chorus in "tear gas" but the remaining album tracks are quite bland.

Overall I appreciate that they've slightly increased the electronic and industrial touches (thinking of the "born again pessimist" verses in particular), but the songwriting and the hooks are strongly lacking. Sam seems to be playing around the same patterns in his melodies and the whole thing blends together a lot. If it wasn't for the industrial influences, I don't think I'd be able to tell the band apart from their peers.

For Those That Wish to Exist had many standouts and thus replay value but I doubt I'm going to revisit this follow up a lot. I usually don't gravitate towards the soundscape they loosely are part of, some exceptions aside (Vukovi, Future Palace, Young Guns, Lower Than Atlantis... with a focus on "loosely"). Those acts have the entire package and are more consistent at it to make me come back. I don't think the material is up to par this time, sadly.

what do any of those bands in the last paragraph have in common with architects?

  17. Their respective sounds at times. I could get more specific but I would end up embedding a ton of specific songs and parts to make that point more sense to those unfamiliar with those bands. I just get reminded of them at various moments throughout this record.

  20. It is icky and horrible that “fans” bring up Tom’s passing as the reason why they don’t like the band’s music anymore. That part was really upsetting to read

  22. Yup - some of the nicest and most stand up guys in a genre where that doesn’t always exist - that shit sucks

Most of this album is really good, if not great.

The only downside for me is the one two punch of Burn Down My House and Living Is Killing Me, two of the more painfully boring Architects songs.

New Moral Low Ground and the closer are stand outs and seriously good songs

Burn Down My House and All The Love In The World were boring, but maybe they'll grow on me.

Listened halfway through and realized I didn't think I heard those double kick drums yet so I was getting worried.

Excited again once I heard it in the last track.

Goddamn, the last track is great. To me it's the Goliath/Impermanence of this album.

Honestly, it was much better than I was expecting.
