I remember when we had to evacuate because of wildfire risk a couple summers ago and doing that with even just one kid was terrifying. Hope you all are doing alright

    A) I can't imagine having to pack up all this shit in the midst of a hurricane. What a nightmare scenario. Hope you all are safe.

    B) Did anyone else have just the most annoying time making sure people were up to date on their shots ahead of visiting the newborn? Because it's fucking annoying as hell lol

Thanks all. We decided to book an AirBnB and bail tomorrow morning. We're headed towards Orlando and will be there through Friday at the latest. It will be my wife and I, our 8 month old, my brother and sister in law and their 6 and 3 year olds, and my brother in law's parents, sister, and 3 dogs lol. Staying here:

Airbnb: Vacation Rentals, Cabins, Beach Houses, Unique Homes & Experiences

    Gonna be a suck fest

So, as of this morning I had 3 full time jobs. Was tripling up while working from home trying to prepare for the baby.

Job #2, the one I liked the least, decided to disqualify me from their paternity leave program soooo now I have only 2 full time jobs lmao. They clearly thought “we can play games with him because what’s he gonna do, he’s got a kid coming” not knowing I had other options. Oh well.

Just a little vent over something that shouldn’t be an issue becoming one.

Wellp, my 8-year-old son is super sick again. Has had a fever since Friday night, threw up on Saturday and has been coughing his lungs out for the past two days. Also has had an upset stomach here and there. He's been to urgent care and his primary doctor twice since then. They originally thought Strep (even though Strep was negative) because his throat was super red but he's been on anti-biotics since Saturday and has made zero improvements. Fever still at 101 as of a few hours ago. Tested negative for Covid twice and and negative for the flu and mono.

He's going back today to test for Parainfluenza, which is what he had (eerily) this same exact week last year.

Absolute nightmare when your child is sick and no one can figure out why.

Sending positive thoughts! We all had something similar a couple weeks ago and everyone in my family got it. Passed it onto grandma too. We’re all on the mend but both my sons had a really bad cough and it wasn’t Covid

When this happened last year with my son, our pediatrician noticed in his bloodwork that certain things were low, mainly White Blood Cell Count. White Blood Cell Count should be high when you're sick. That means you're actively fighting off an infection. Both last year, and yesterday, his white blood count is low (although not as low as it was last year).

Last year when this happened, she was really worried about his blood, so she retested him a week later to make sure things weren't trending downward, luckily, his counts increased back to normal range (when he was feeling better). She said certain illnesses will make your WBC decrease, even though they should increase when you're sick.

However on that same blood test, she also was able to determine last year, that his blood titers were messed up and she ordered him to take a pneumococcal booster vaccine because she believed the one he had as a toddler didn't stick for some reason. She re-tested his blood six weeks later and everything was pretty much all back to normal - blood levels and titers.

With this scare this week, we decided today we are going to take him to the immunologist just to make sure. His appointment is Friday morning. Our pediatrician doesn't seem too concerned - because she really thinks it's just something viral but this is two scares in one year, so we're playing it safe.

What's interesting is, I have historically had a low white blood cell count myself. In fact, I had my own annual physical earlier this week and my WBC was a 3.8 (normal range is 4.5-11). Difference is, I never get sick. The doctor said it could very well be genetic, but he gets sick quite a bit every year.

    It's just frustrating.

Just got back from the immunologist and he has no concerns with my son's bloodwork. While many viruses cause your WBC to increase when your sick to fight off infection, he added that there are also many viruses that do the opposite, so he's not worried about anything at all. He said he's 'even less worried' when I told him I have historically had a low WBC.

So we're feeling a lot better about it.

The thing no one warned me about was how many false starts there would be prior to labor. My wife is 36 weeks pregnant and this is our second trip to the hospital now for contractions without actual labor. Kids grounded when he finally comes out.

This is what it ended up being again - Parainfluenza.

Wild that he got it the same exact week of the same exact month two years in a row.

Maybe he's just allergic to the last week of September?

How did everyone's kids start crawling? Our 9 month old has shown very little interest. We try to prop her up on her knees and she just cracks up lol

Our first kid was walking at that time frame, our second kid was like 14-15 months before walking. Don't remember the crawl time for either.

Our 3 year old has been in the hospital since yesterday thanks to RSV and pneumonia. This sucks.

lovdd waiting for 3 hours around a bunch of sick coughing kids too. Like it’s amazing to me that we didn’t figure out something better after 2.5 years of covid. My high risk son is coming to the hospital with a viral respiratory infection, and we’re gonna be sitting around with other kids with viral respiratory infections that he could catch. Seems…like a bad idea?
