Giving Sister Cities a full listen for the first time in years probably. Never fully clicked with me so curious if I'll feel any different

Just re-listened to NCTH last night, and yeah it feels like the whole is less than the sum of its parts. I like most of the songs, but between the rough mix and the sequencing (mainly in the back half), I don’t have much desire to go back and listen to it as a whole.

Cigarettes & Saints is still one of their best songs though

My favorite record of theirs is and likely will always be TGG.

BUT (BUT!) this might be their best.

    TGG
    Hum
    NCTH
    Suburbia
    SC
    Upsides

Cardinals II just gets better and better. Literally makes me want to run at a wall. The pre chorus guitar is huge. This thing is gonna be brutal live

Buffalo represent! I’m excited that Water Street is back. It’s the elite Rochester venue.

Sister Cities does not miss. Such a great album. If I had to nitpick, I would say that I think Raining in Kyoto and Pyramids of Salt should be switched in the sequencing, but this album is everything I wanted TWY to become after TGG. I think so many songs on here are among the best songs they’ve ever written, but my favorites are It Must Get Lonely, Flowers, Heaven’s Gate, and Ocean. Overall, this album is easily my favorite from this band.

One thing I love about this band is the vast difference in everyone's favorite songs.

Revisiting Sister Cities now. I'm definitely enjoying it more but I feel like, to me, they're a band of moments. The end of Cigarettes and Saints, the end of Funeral etc are all like "holy fuck" moments when I listen to them and this album idk why is lacking that. Pyramids of Salt so far is the only thing that has given me that kinda feeling.

    forbidden chalice.

That moment, at least for me, has to be the second verse + chorus of Ghosts of Right Now. I get goosebumps every time

Yeah, just finally finished and that section/the guitar section afterwards is wild. I also am in love with "The Ocean Grew Hands." Re-visiting this for the first time since it was released was definitely a good idea.

I was very surprised by this, but at Riot Fest I felt like "Oldest Daughter" was the song that got the best reaction, while the ending of Low Tide wasn't as insane with the crowd as I expected it to be

The climax of Flowers is one of my favorite moments in their entire discography

The bridge on Daughter is one of their five best in their whole catalog.

Exquisite tension building, awesome riffing (particularly the unsung portions of rapid chord transitions) and explodes back into the last chorus. It’s a perfect live song for a band build on those moments.

"oldest daughter" is basically my platonic ideal of a wonder years song at this point

I get what you mean here about those moments but I do think Sister Cities has the most “moments” that truly hit for me. Nearly every song has a moment on there that I adore.

Some other artists that had the same release date have already charted, but who knows.
