Russia HAS been running out of missiles; the rate of missiles they've launched into Ukraine has decreased dramatically from earlier this summer. It's why they've resorted to more dumber munitions of lower tech, and even using S-300 missiles, which normally launch surface to air, to a surface to surface application instead. And why do you think the mobilized hundreds of thousands of men? Because their "professional" fighting force is getting absolutely mauled on the battlefield. So now Putin is sending all these newbies into the meat-grinder in Ukraine, with no skills, supplies, or experience. He is losing badly, and he knows it

I think the truth with all of these things is somewhere in the middle. Ukraine has lost a lot of men too, and when the west freezes this winter it’s going to put a damper on their ability to support Ukraine. Russia on the other hand has natural resources and manpower that Ukraine and the west can’t match right now. It doesn’t look good for Ukraine either.

Which western official said we’d fight to the last Ukrainian? That was the tell right there. This is going to get much worse.

Posted this in GenPol but I guess it belongs here too. Didn’t have “we invaded Ukraine because the West believes in at least 3 genders” on the bingo card tbh

The thing with Russia though is they’ve ALWAYS had manpower and abundant natural resources but have very rarely been able to leverage that haha. Even in WW2 it took a loonnng time and with some support and help from the West for them to turn the tide

well pre wwii they were trying to complete an industrialization process (trying to accomplish what the western capitalist powers did within 10 years) from a semi-feudal mode of production. they're a fully industrialized nation now.

yeah they should theoretically be better prepared to use their resources but it’s kind of gotta see it to believe it mode now

the fact that they've prevented their economy from tanking, like many thought it would initially with all the ruble turning to rubble talk, is pretty good use of resources tbh.

    Killing Nothing

The Soviet Union did most of the fighting necessary to defeat Nazism. The right-wing historian Max Hastings has the following assessment: "Western material aid contributed importantly to the Soviets' 1943-45 war effort, but seems trifling alongside the destruction and slaughter they experienced... The Soviet Union revealed an industrial and military capability that would have enabled it to complete the destruction of Hitler's war machine even had the Western Allies never landed in Italy or France, though their interventions hastened the end."

  15. Nonsense, they were one of the Great Powers of Europe for 200 years and defeated Napoleon. For most of the time from Peter the Great to the Crimean War they were in the top half of most powerful Great Powers too. The Crimean War loss that kicked off their decline from that status took 3 and a half other Great Powers to accomplish.

  16. Not to mention the necessity of that aid at that period and that destruction and slaughter could've perhaps been prevented if the Allies weren't perfectly happy to let Hitler destroy the USSR first before they acted against him at all

didnt the Russian empire not begin until the mid-1700s? My Russian history pre-industrial revolutionish is super rusty but iirc they started expanding territory with Ivan the Terrible but i wouldn’t have called them a “great power” during those couple hundred years between Ivan and the empire. Then once the empire starts, you get some high water mark decades that you alluded to pre-Industrial Rev, but once we get industrialization and countries being able to exploit their natural resources to help them with territorial gains and power, that’s right when things began to fall apart for them, no? That was my point with saying they haven’t always been able to leverage the vast amount of natural resources they have into the same successes that many of their counterparts were able to do
