Core and Purple are pretty much perfect records. Not a single miss on either record.

Sorry to steer away the conversation from awesome 90s bands, but I come with a take inspired by the TWY thread:

With the exception of a few exceptions, I am not a fan of guest features on full length albums. I would rather they be singles if anything.

I loves features on rap and r&b records but somehow seeing features on rock album track lists makes me cringe, regardless of the quality of the songs lol I feel like I have being seeing more of that lately

I think it’s the corniness of streaming listing them as “features” that ruins it. You can’t tell me Mick Jagger on “You’re So Vain” doesn’t bring something to that song. Or all the stuff Nicks/Buckingham, Crosby/Nash or Frey/Henley appear on aren’t enhanced by their appearances

I tend to like them more if they’re harmonies or adding a new melody opposed to “slot this singer on the second verse to sing what the main vocalist couldve done”

for example, i adore hayley williams’ contribution to mewithoutyou’s log flume

Yes this is what I mean. Specifically seeing “Feat. Name” or something similar on a rock album track list is what makes me cringe, not the concept of a feature.

I was gonna say there are songs like Young Folks and Someone That I Used To Know which are entirely dependent on features haha

oh wow, that's new to me, I love features and collabs and tend to get overly excited by them at times hahah. Odd to me it could be seen as cringe, might need to ponder that a bit.

I think they meant more when they throw MGK or Youngblud or Blackbear on a song and it's clearly a label thing and not organic

Very often when I recommend a new album to my friends I will mention the guest spots around probably like a second or third sentence talking aboit it hah. Like I've sent a lot of recs for new Caracara and I possibly always mention Anthony Green being on a track if I know people are into Circa Survive etc. (which most of my close friends would be)

I could see that, though then it comes to a case to case thing where I'd need to think if it's a genuine collab or a cash grab, whatever.

I raise an eyebrow sometimes when it's like a remix feature just to try and get it to number 1 but also if it's good I'm never going to be mad

Get it, seems fair - that would look calculated. I'm mostly thinking of friends working with friends here, which I always celebrate. Or getting an artist you to love sing on your song, should be quite exciting.

i don’t like them when it’s just a minor part. seems like an attempt to bait fans of the original artist. when it’s adding an actual part of their own, however, i’m into it. the andy hull feature on the last touche album is good.

Same here, I guess. I'd be pretty disappointed if I saw "feat. Julien Baker" on Turnstile's "Underwater Boi" and then heard the song. If it's something minor it should be left to be found in the albums' credits.
