Nah, thats not actually the process: NFL's 2013 protocol for players with concussions

To assist the medical teams on game day, there is now an "eye in the sky" – a certified athletic trainer sitting in a stadium box who watches the game and television replays to scan the field and look for players with a potential head injury who may require assessment by the medical staff.

Players who are suspected of suffering a concussion are assessed by their team's medical staff.

Beginning this year, a neuro-trauma expert physician unaffiliated with an NFL team will be available on the sideline as an extra set of eyes. He can be consulted by the NFL medical team or NFL player.

Its only if a player is ruled out with a concussion that the independent doctors actually have a say on their return. For Tua's sake, I really hope they didnt rush past it last week, because back to back concussions in that short a time is career ending stuff

I don’t care what the NFL and Miami says, Tua had a concussion last week and they put his life in danger by clearing him so quickly. Who gives a fuck if he passed the tests, a back injury doesn’t make someone walk like a drunk like he did after getting up in the Buffalo game. Concussions, TBIs, and brain stem compression injuries do.

  5. I didn’t even know he was likely concussed 4 fucking days ago

That was so brutal to watch. I had a seizure once at work and saw the video afterwards and had very similar hand movements.

The idea that Im supposed to believe a guys head snapping back into the field caused a back injury...that locked up and made him stumble...yeah, its an insane stretch.

I've had back spasms after some injuries my senior year of HS lacrosse. They dont make me wobble, they make me unable to walk, or make me walk like I've got a cane.

The Dolphins org and Mike McD need to do some soul searching after this week. I hope the NFLPA puts their foot down on how they’re dealing with players health.

I work in childcare and one time a kid fell over and hit their head on the floor. Was seemingly fine, but then was puking later that night and eventually diagnosed with a concussion. Ever since then, I refuse to believe in tests for concussions that leave little to no room for development or nuance. No way in hell Tua wasn’t concussed in that game Sunday, later on after the game, and throughout the week.

I think you’re severely underestimating the sway a head coach has.
