MJ and Whitney didn't write all their own songs all the time so they suck. Ed Sheeran writes his own songs so he's amazing. I see the sound logic.

so i had a (serious) discussion with a friend person i used to know. i asked him if i were to pick up a guitar and write a 10 song album and record it in my bedroom (i have no guitar skills at all), would he think my album is better than a beyonce album and he responded yes. what a dick.

jimmy eat world played a cover of "we are never getting back together" at a festival i saw them at a few years ago and i wasn't disappointed at all. i actually think it makes sense in that situation.

I have talked to a lot of people who say they prefer artists who write their own songs because it helps them relate to the song more, but it just doesn't impact my thoughts on it at all. I don't go searching for who wrote what anyway so it doesn't matter to me, but if I relate to a song I relate to it, whether the artist singing it is the sole writer or there are 10 cowriters. It doesn't change the meaning or how much I enjoy it.

And I cannot when someone's only defense of an artist is "Well at least they write their own songs!!" ok? The songs they write still suck lol. Semi-related and possibly an unpopular opinion cause I see ppl say it all the time, but I also hate when an artist totally bombs a live performance and ppl go "Well at least they're not lip-synching!!!" way to scrape the bottom of the barrel for any scrap of compliment. They didn't lip but they still sounded like a cat being set on fire, so who cares??? call a spade a spade and admit they suck lol

    i fucking love that cover.

i feel like my foot is slowly entering my mouth, but i'm gonna stand by my opinion that modern covers are usually uninteresting to me.

  13. you can't judge covers as a category of song. they're entirely dependent on bands' abilities to arrange a song to fit their style, or to choose songs that are easily arranged to fit their style. maybe bands are bad at this. it doesn't reflect any kind of value of the concept of covers as a whole.

    !!!!

I think 80% of outdoor sets are ehh at best. There something about going to a show in small room, make the bands sound heavenly.

depends on the band, venue, size of the crowd, etc.

ive seen bands that sounded impeccable outdoors. deafheaven, for example. however ive seen some bands absolutely tank outdoors. sun kil moon, for example.
