Frankly I'd be shocked if anyone in 2016 cared enough about DCFC to have an opinion on that record

I love Narrow Stairs. I listen to it a lot in the winter, along with 808s & Heartbreak.

    1) Ryan Adams: Live at Carnegie Hall is one of the best live albums.

    2) Justin Townes Earl will be remembered as one of the best songwriters of our time. He doesn't get near the credit he deserves in present time.

Much prefer City of Evil (when it came out, haven't listened in a long time.)

I might go back and listen to those. I used to play in a band that covered Unholy Confessions and I got super sick of that song real fast.

I had an unbelievable experience putting that album on my drummer/roommate's vintage speakers. Just can't even make sense of how damn GOOD every single guitar hiccup and bass hum and drum tickle on that record sounds

Even though it's not Death Cab's best writing (I prefer Transatlanticism and Photo Album if you're talking strictly songwriting), that album is an audiophile's dream and certainly Chris Walla's magnum opus as a producer.

Yep. After that one Chris Walla lost interest and the band lost its edge.

Walla just has an unbelievable sense of how to turn a simple song into layers of gorgeous guitars, and he is also a master of getting the tones and distortion to be an EXACT fit for the mood/style of each guitar part. One of my favorite guitarists because he doesn't shred ever, his genius is all in creativity and tasteful accents. He always seemed to play the perfect notes to complement Ben.

Narrow Stairs you can just tell that every single little guitar track out of the hundreds on the record has its own amp/pedal/effect settings. Which you really cant say for most guitar albums. He really puts a LOT of emphasis on how the guitars sound not just what is played.

I never liked Plans at all really. Narrow Stairs was better.

Imo Plans really highlighted what Ben is good at, while Narrow Stairs highlights Walla's strengths

If you stripped the songs of every DCFC album down to just chords and melody, putting all the emphasis on songwriting and none on development of the songs/production, Plans would definitely be the DCFC album that holds up the best
