I agree with this. they haven't made a bad album but I do think they tend to have moodier records every other go round, and I tend to prefer those over the more straightforward pop/rock efforts

Way to completely agree with a theory that doesn’t make sense. What discourse is needed? You’re wrong. You might say to yourself, “this is not MY BEST THEORY.”

maybe ask yourself if you're coming across as an asshole before you post

my post was just a dumb way of pointing out a coincidence and saying i really like those four records. those two records you mentioned are phenomenal too!

if you’re seriously that offended by me making fun of a theory, I dunno. I didn’t make it about your or anything. It wasn’t even actually your theory. Why so defensive? It’s a joke about a theory that doesn’t negate your preferences to the albums you are referencing at all. Nor does it say anything negative about any of the bands music. Just the theory for ignoring their album about divorce and not counting it as a moody record. That is funny. So I made a joke. Love whatever you want. But saying you prefer moodier albums and leaving out a moody album is hilarious. If that makes me an asshole, fine. I’m an asshole. But I hope you continue this quest against people who actually attack others on here.

yeah dude I did find your funny post offensive. the offender doesn't get to decide they aren't offensive to the person they offended. you don't have to apologize, but you don't get to feign ignorance either.

we're all fans of the band here. we've heard their records. you made it about me when you explicitly said "you're wrong" as though I hadn't heard the record. the tone is very bullying/gatekeeping like.

the music forum has always been full of people who preface their posts with LOL YEAH and then say something completely dismissive as though that isn't speaking to people as though they're idiots. then they say they were just making fun posts about how much they like the band. why can't we just talk about bands we like without making fun of each other's tastes or dismissing legitimate complaints with waves of sycophantic fawning over the band. Like responding to someone's thoughts about a record with "no actually they're all perfect" is just absolutely grating.

I honestly don't care about how I come across here, since I made a decision months ago to not re-up due to this shit. Half the time this is a fun place to post. The other half of the time it's absolutely insufferable. Would've loved to just talk about the music, but oops.

I read half of this or so. I stopped around where you quoted my response that came AFTER you made it a bigger negative thing and present it as me being the one who made it personal. I dismissed a theory. You made it personal by calling me an asshole. So, I’m not sorry. I didn’t dismiss your preferences. Or the albums you love. Or you as a person. I dismissed a theory that’s wrong. I said you were wrong about a theory. That’s as close to personal as I got. That’s being an asshole? Fine, I’m an asshole.

And I agree, I don’t get to decide if someone is offended. But i can sit back and say my joke was unbelievably tame and not personal whatsoever. I don’t think you’re cut out for the internet. You can do whatever you want, of course. But I am past caring. I was curious why you were so offended, but nah, that’s gone. I’m blocking you as soon as I post this.

back to talking about Jimmy Eat World. But don’t make any jokes about theories.

I am doing a discography run through and spent a lot of time on Futures today. The normal album and then the demo version album. Next is all the bonus tracks from the recent rerelease. Still easily my favorite Jimmy album.

The demo version of Work from the white disc is one of my favorite songs of all time. That drum pattern alone gets stuck in my head for days whenever I listen to it.

I always forget that there are some alternate lyrics on the demos version. I don’t listen to them as much as the actual album so I kind of don’t remember the changed lyrics. So each time I listen it’s almost like I’m hearing them for the first time in a way.

I always like that in this thread there are very firm opinions that we openly disagree on but nobody attacks each other & we continue having strong opinions about this band we love. That shit was bizarre

I feel like there are other songs that could have made for a good opener to that album, but opener is the best spot for that song, if that makes any sense.

For sure! I have an interesting relationship with the tracklisting because small things like this. Funny how the brain finds patterns in other records and tries to apply those trends in other things. I really like how the original is sequenced, but for example, a song like Evidence feels like the perfect track 2 in my mind, probably because the way the track builds up reminds me of something like Now Now’s Prehistoric (and Lucky Denver Mint, kind of), which are also track 2s with “softer verses with loud sections” that come off a slow-starting opener meant to build them up.
