Yes? They could've used this as a jumping off point for several pieces.

They could've examined his fandom: do people just not know about his racism, or do they know and not care? They could've explored what accountability would and should have looked like here. They could've looked at the industry forces that allowed him to continue to succeed despite being "largely unseen in the mainstream media".

Instead it's just "this person is popular, and they're popular despite having done something terrible . . . how do we monetize that under the guise of 'journalism'?" and it sucks.

See, what you're describing is good journalism. That's uncomfortable. Haha. I'm starting to believe journalism is kind of like art, which obviously it absolutely should not be. By that I mean that I basically believe something is art if the creator says it's art. It doesn't mean it's good art. But it does mean it is art. I'm not saying anything new by pointing out that we're seeing that liberally applied to journalism. This Times piece is an interesting example. It's journalism. I still don't really see it as a "heartwarming underdog story", but it's still shit.

this only works if the inflation is being caused by the money supply being too high! Not if it’s because a virus is crunching supply chains worldwide!

Guys, Morgan Wallen is totally not racist! Would a racist invite Jeezy to perform with him at a show?!

I felt so bad for Jeezy, like did he know he was being used as a token propr by Morgan's PR team? Fuck, the modern country industry is disgusting.

Exactly! This won’t work anyway and you’re just hurting people doing it.
But also just in general I can’t get over the fact that our economic system breaks when the general population gets disposable income and the fix is to drive the country into a recession

I don’t know what the plan is when we hit another recession and the supply chain gets even worse with a railroad strike. Feels like we’ve been teetering off the edge for a while and there’s not even an attempt to prevent any of the worse shit they’re planning from happening.

So as best as I can make of it, that’s Gregg Philips - pictured there in the top Tweet - at the golf “outing” with Trump which is very clearly a meeting of some sort. Gregg is the former head of the Mississippi Department of Human services, and Deputy Commissioner for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Throughout his illustrious career he was accused of grifting and abusing his positions for personal financial gain (it’s been found that he owes somewhere north of $100,000 in unpaid taxes and has awarded millions in government contracts to his own personal businesses).

More importantly though, Gregg is now a board member for “True the Vote”, the conservative “vote monitoring” organization based in Houston, Texas. He was also recently featured in Dinesh D’Souza’s “2,000 Mules” film claiming voter fraud in the 2020 election. In the film, Phillips claimed "dozens and dozens and dozens of our mules show up on the ACLED databases" as what were characterized as "antifa rioters". ACLED said the claims were categorically false, noting it does not track cellphone data. Engelbrecht asserted Phillips was actually referring to a different organization, then he mentioned ACLED, but she declined to name the different organization, saying Phillips relied on "multiple databases".

That’s important to note because the TrueTheVote TruthSocial account posted, the day before this golf course meeting, that message in the first tweet asking “Patriots” to please “pray for a meeting that is happening tomorrow, early afternoon”, tagged Gregg in the message, and then he reposted it. Not a far cry to assume he runs the account.

Gregg also posted on TruthSocial that he had been out with his friend, Robin Bullock, a noted Christian guitarist who, uh, majors in “prophecy” shall we say, and refers to himself as an Apostle of God mandated to establish God’s Kingdom on Earth through, of course, Donald Trump. That’s when Gregg posted that, after his discussion with Robin, it was time to “overturn the tables” (referring to Christ overturning the tables in the defiled Temple). The next day he posts that he has arrived in DC, that DC is not prepared for them, and then again repeats that they plan to “do a bit of this tomorrow” and then reposts a meme of Jesus overturning the tables while including the hashtag “PatriotGames”.

After the meeting was over, the True The Vote account then posted that “today’s meeting was positive. Huge progress made with a patriot Senator.” They then go on to acknowledge that, yes, they’re aware they’re being sued by Konnech Inc., a lawsuit which is challenging True the Vote’s allegations that Konnech helped “steal” the election from Donald Trump. The lawsuit alleges that True the Vote is profiting off of their false claims via the millions of dollars they’ve raised from fellow “Patriot” donations. The True the Vote account then goes on to say this lawsuit “changes nothing” and that they will push “ever onward” presumably with the help of said “patriot Senator”.

So while staff members of Trump’s golf course were present on that course…so was Gregg. I would take it the golf course itself either was the meeting or the pre or post meeting wrap up. So Trump’s unplanned visit had something to do with a continued effort to push the claims of voter fraud even further with the assistance of a US Senator and the True the Vote organization.

    I think.
